HDTV & 5.1 ?

When viewing HDTV that is being broadcast over cable in 5.1 sound modes, what is the best receiver sound mode to use? ( 5ch stereo, 5 ch enhanced, Pro Logic, PLII ) I have a Yamaha HTR-6140 and the owners manual isn't very clear so I am a bit confused. Sorry if this seems dumb but I'm just having a bit of trouble understanding it all.

Dolby Digital.  The sound is encoded in the same format as a Dolby Digital DVD.

Thanks for the info. Sorry it took 3 years. When I got a new computer, some of my websites were lost. I'll be online allot more now that I found this site again.
