BluRays just arrived at work! Woohoo! That was faster than I thought!

Just in case people didn't realize that you can send in any DVD that was commercially produced (not DVD copies, or burned DVDs, must be commercially pressed) and take part in the DVD2BLU promotion.  So, if you had a title that gave you separate widescreen and fullscreen DVDs of the same title, send in the fullscreen DVD for any blu-ray title that Warner is offering.

^, thats really surprising. did they change this since it started?

In the op here it states that it must be the same movie for same movie.

Also noticed in the rules....

12.

If you are submitting a DVD disc consisting of the DVD version of a Participating Title, and you are selecting the Blu-ray version of the same Participating Title, please note: The Blu-ray version may have different special features and/or bonus material than contained on the DVD version of the Participating Title, including much less or no special features and/or bonus material, and/or the Blu-ray version may have a different aspect ratio (e.g., may be full screen instead of wide screen or vice versa) and/or the Blu-ray version may have a different rating or no rating and/or the Blu-ray version may have a different number of discs.

So I guess you can send in any dvd for any blu-ray.

What about those dvds at the dollar store, are they real dvds?

For "Elf" I returned Disc 2 (Full Screen version) and I got the replacement, no problem. But it does raise the possibility someone could take advantage of the program (give the other disc to a friend so they can exchange as well) at least for that title.

What a great deal!  Warner changed this program within the last few days to make it "any" DVD.  I was looking at this last week and realized that I'd sold off some of my DVDs that I wanted to upgrade.  smile.gif

Unfortunately, the use of the word "any" on the dvd2blu.com home page is rather misleading.  It's not literally "any" DVD, just any DVD that happens to be in the program. At least, that's what it looked like just a moment ago. The FAQ has this item:  "No, the DVD2Blu promotion is limited to the titles shown on DVD2Blu.com. We do not currently have any plans to modify the list of eligible titles. However, we reserve the right to do so."  For example, "North by Northwest" does not show up in their list of titles.

The FAQ says that you can trade in "any pre-recorded discs that contain professionally produced content purchased at a regular retail or e-commerce store (excluding adult content). "

http://www.dvd2blu.com/faq.html

EDIT.  I think I understand what you meant.  You can't get "ANY" Blu-Ray disc from Warner.  There are over 100 titles available, though...  I stocked up on the Kubrick ones, myself.

OK, after re-reading a couple of times, now maybe I think I understand what the deal is. The Blu-rays that you can get are limited to those they list on the dvd2blu site. But the DVDs you send them can be any commercially-produced (non-porn) DVDs. So I could send in something like an Alfred Hitchcock title from Laserlight, and get something completely different, like the complete 8th season of Smallville? If that's true, I'm definitely in!

Wow, obviously they have a stockpile of these blu-rays to unload and not enough people were upgrading with their same-movie DVDs so now they are accepting ANY DVD just to move the product. Great deal!

That's the deal. They don't care what DVDs you send in, as long as they are commercial, pressed discs and aren't porn. Also, there is free shipping on orders over $35. I ordered 10 BDs and sent in ten discs which I would have a difficult time giving away!

actualy, most of what i have already, i want to keep, but there is a used dvd store near me with some titles at the .99 and 1.99 price, still would make rio bravo cheaper than amazon or best buy, got about 8 i would like.

Ooooh...  Now *THAT* is some deal.  Will need to look at that list again...

I wonder if you can send in some of those out dated Digital Copies for the Bluray cases.   Once the code is expired or you've loaded it what good is it?

I'm just not sure that would qualify technically as a DVD

I emailed them before I sent in my lastest round ( I first did it when it had to be title for title ) and they said "Bonus Features" Discs did not count, it had to be the main DVD Feature with the Film.  Kinda bummed me out as I was gonna maybe use the Bonus Features discs for a couple that I exchanged before, just so I don't have those weird odds and ends lying around for no good reason.  But they nixed that idea.  I wanted to be sure before I mailed them in and then either didn't get all that I ordered or had other issues, since you never know what can throw the whole process off.

I'll paste the email and response:

Message: I wanted to clarify one thing with the \"ANY\" DVD upgrade. Do the Special Features discs count as \"professionaly produced\" documentary for the exchange? That aspect was not totally clear in the FAQ, so I wanted to make sure I didn\'t make a mistake by sending one of those.

The answer email:

Thank you for your interest in DVD2Blu!

In order to exchange for Blu-Ray, you would need to send in the disc with the main feature film on it.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us again!

Ouch, I think I did send in at least one or 2 of the Bonus DVD's along with the main movie -- there was no mention in the FAQ that they were excluded.    Those are Professional produced DVD and technically

most of them could essentially be considered documentaries.     I guess I'll see in a week or if they make a fuss -- I'd hate to have to find a couple more discs, but that won't be too hard with

as many as I have stored.

I was debating with myself for the longest time as to whether or not they would count, since they are "Professionally Produced" DVD's, so I just decided to send them an email just to confirm.  Who knows what they might actually do in practice as opposed to what they would tell you in an email, so you might get lucky and everything will go thru fine.  I just wanted to give a heads up to at least the "Official" answer to that question.  But until we actually start getting the Blu-rays in the mail and know for sure, it's anyones guess as to what they will actually do.?

Understand and agreed.   It never dawned on me to check to be honest.    I'll report back as soon as I get informed by the proper authority.
