I have a 1080i mitsubishi widescreen and there's no HDMI output and I'd like to maximize the graphics on my PS3

so my question is, is there some kind of receiver I can purchase that will allow me to connect AV cables from my television to the receiver with the PS3 having an HDMI connecting to the receiver?

sounds so complicated, but so convenient.
