Never really been a big fan of the band, but as a huge music fan, I respect them. Too bad they can't get along but it's been a 40 year journey.

I am a die hard fan and I say it's about time.  I had a show this year get canceled and this was before Steven fell off the stage.  From various reports coming from this tour it was clear that everyone was fighting.  Joe's wife was throwing shots at Steven via Twitter and there are the rumors of him drinking again.  It's too bad they couldn't go out on a REAL farewell tour but when money calls they'll probably be back.  I understand Perry is doing his own thing and apparently Tyler wants a solo album but they're going to realize that no one gives a shit about them without Aerosmith.

Last headline I saw said the band's not breaking up but they're looking for a new lead singer.

Maybe they can land the philippino Steven Tyler

No loss, very over rated band, just like U2. Way too mainstream for my liking. But, they did have a couple average songs years ago.

Maybe CBS will revamp: Rockstar - Aerosmith next year.

Their debut album is easily one of the greatest rock albums ever. I love a lot of their '70s stuff, but I don't care at all for their more recent efforts.

It's safe to say their best days are behind them, maybe it is just time for them to end it (until they somehow manage to blow all their millions).

IMHO, they were great until Rocks, which was so-so. After that, it was all downhill, with the possible exception of the cooperation with Run DMC.
I saw them during the Rocks tour, Tyler really owned the stage, almost out-Jaggering Jagger himself ;)
They haven't aged with the style of the Stones though...

That was always my thing with Aerosmith.  They weren't a bad band, they just weren't all that exceptional to me.  As far as 70's style rock goes, there were better bands, like The Stones.  That said, despite Joe Perry's contribution to the music, and Aerosmith without Steven Tyler is the equivalent of The Stones without Mick Jagger.  It would be like a Karaoke version of a band that wasn't really all theat original in the first place.

Compared to The Stones anyone is going to be bad.  IMO there first four albums are brilliant and they deserve a lot more credit than they ever get in terms of the rock 'n roll they were doing.  I always find it funny that Columbia released Aerosmith and Bruce Springsteen's debut albums on the same day and it was because they needed someone to replace Dylan and Led Zeppelin.

The "in drug rehab" albums were extremely weak but their rise to glory during the 80's features some great songs.  More mainstream?  Sure but the dirty lyrics, sexual nature and mean ness is still there.  I think that last contract they signed pressured them into releasing even more mainstream fluff and don't forget the "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" crowd that discovered them.  It says everything that a bad can be hits in four different decades because you have to reinvent yourself and mix in with the times.  I don't think Aerosmith sold out to do this because people followed them in each decade.  They didn't follow anyone else.

I think the problem with the band has been obvious for years and while I still love their music I think they deserve to bottom out.  The disrespect they show towards their fans is just too much and for this I think they do need to break up.  Charging $250 for a ticket and then just playing 75-minutes???  This happened in Atlanta this year.  They should have returned the money since Tyler and Perry for fighting and started cutting songs out of the setlist.  Their last few tours have had countless canceled shows and I never bought the injury report that was given this year.  Him falling off the stage is one thing but I'm fairly certain there wasn't an earlier injury.

Tyler and Perry are masters but they're nothing without the other.  I'm sure they'll realize this but we might get that Led Zeppelin reunion with Tyler.  Just rumors but you never know.  The ticket sales were down this past tour so perhaps the break up news will just lead to a farewell tour, which will pack them in again.

Well, I didn't even know who Steven Tyler is until I bought the Chris Botti in Boston bluray disk a couple months ago (my wife had to tell me who he was). He sings a couple of songs on that disc. And I really like the two songs he sings. Really pretty. I've never been a real big rock fan as you can tell from not knowing who he is and had never heard one of his songs (knowingly). But, I've got to say, I really like those two songs.

I know that Aerosmith & the Stones are always compared, but for some reason I just never "got" the Stones. I own several early Aerosmith albums (+ Pandora's Box), but have never even been tempted to buy a Stones album. But then I don't own any Springsteen or Dylan albums either, so there you go.

I have been an Aerosmith fan for decades, but I have to admit their output of genuinely good stuff doesn't add up to more than a couple hours.  Those albums we barely over 30 minutes after all.  After all the antics from both Tyler and Perry over the years, there is no point in them continuing.  At least one of them, if not both, clearly still don't understand they don't add up to much alone.

BTW, a friend was at the Sturgis concert and said Tyler's fall was pretty horrific.  He half expected to hear he had been paralyzed, if not worse.
