Small Room Speaker Setup

Thread Starter
Moving into a pretty small house. Living room is going to be a tight fit for the surround sound. Looks like I’m going to have to place my rears to the sides. Any tips? I could possibly pull the couch off the wall just a bit to get the rears slightly behind me if it’s that big of a deal.

I’m thinking my far wall will allow for proper spread of the fronts at least……

The rear setup is going to be problematic…..the couch/right rear is going to extend into the entry way into the dining room. Not much I can do about it if I want to be centered in front of the television with room for the left front speaker.

If anyone has suggestions for setting up in a small room like this let me know…..

Wow, no suggestions at all huh? LOL

I got my system setup last night and it looks like my right front is going to just have to be about a foot further away than my left from my listening position. I’m hoping that Avia will help me to at least calibrate it to proper level.

The rears are just slammed up against the corners of the couch pretty much. Not so bad for the center of the couch, but pretty lame if you were to sit to one side.

Hi, Jason. Sorry I can't be of any help, especially by answering now. But I think I might know how you feel some. My setup is soooo bad, but I had to make concessions with my wife to have what I do have. I got to choose the components that I have, but she won out on placement. I have a fairly nice little setup (nothing great, mind you, but not too bad), but the placement of everything is absolutely horrendous by all audio standards.

My surrounds are hidden behind furniture (one in a corner), my mains are backed up to the wall (ported with one enclosed in the corner next to my avr cabinet) and we only use one side of the room for television watching (short side at that), but one of the surrounds is beside/behind the couch which is way off center. Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination, but I still do enjoy watching a good surround movie or listening to some good music with it.

Well, anyway, enough of my stuff. Hope you are really enjoying your setup.
