Not all sources are HDMI, and some never will be. A lot of people still use their VCRs. There are a few turntables that are HDMI, but aren't for hooking up to the receiver that way. They're for hooking up to the computer, so you can make a cd of your albums. But some people prefer to listen to albums over analog connections, than than listen to cds (me, for one). A lot of people still listen to sacd and dvd-audio discs, over the 5.1 multi-channel analog connections. Component video is rca type analog connections. Most cd players are analog connections, although some have an optical connection. Still not HDMI though.
If there's ever an HDMI only receiver, it's a long ways away, I think. People may embrace new technology when it comes out, but that doesn't mean they'll forget their older tech stuff, or VCRs would have died completely, when dvds came out.
