Home theater project

I bought a foreclosed house that already has the wiring for audio and video.  I got a couple of estimates from a couple of companies to do the work, but I think I can do it myself, shop smart, and save alot of money.  I am kind of confused about the reciever.  I have two rooms wired with speakers for sound.  I guess I would need it to be on two zones?  I may eventually put a sub in as well.  What reciever would you reccomend?  I should have a total of about eight speakers, and eventually one sub.

What will be the configuration of the 8 speakers?  Is it a 5.1 setup in one room for a theater and then 2 stereo speakers in a separate room?

Sounds like you will not be using a center speaker, is that correct?  I would go with and Onkyo 707.  It will give you 7 Channels for the theater room and an easily controllable Zone 2 setup.  Of course with out the center you will have to set it up for Phantom center.  I would also invest in a universal remote, probably a Universal Remote MX-350 with the RF base station.  This remote is good for simple setups in theaters and remote control of the zone 2.  Total cost for everything listed above can be found for around $1000.  If you are looking for something less expensive I am sure its out there, but I like the Onkyo products a far as descrete codes and easy programming.
