Hi

I have a question about what system to buy. They are both Yamaha Kit. I just bought this one at Costco and paid 849CAN$ for it :

Now I just had an offer from Dumoulin through my company for this Kit at 610CAN$ (reg price is 799CAN$):

If I'm right, the Costco one has better speakers and the Dumoulin one has a better receiver.

Does the speakers justify the 240$ difference?

thanks!

I don't think the speakers justify the added cost of the first system.  I would choose to go with the second system simply because the receiver supports the lossless audio codecs you get with Blu-Ray.  This receiver is much more likely to serve you well for many years, whereas the cheaper Costco receiver is already outdated WRT Blu-Ray.

The speakers are almost always the weakest link of home theater in a box systems, anyway (therefore, I wouldn't base my system choice on them EVER) - so if you decide to grow your system later, it's better to have at least one component (the receiver) that won't need to be replaced or updated.

Thanks for your advice. It makes sense. I think I'm going to cancel my order (I didn't receive the shipping yet).
