Has anyone had an experience like this?
I had a BR in the player. I went to start an episode and the image was breaking up, so I hit stop. The player locked up and became unresponsive to the remote for play/stop. I powered down and restarted the machine. The disc would not load. When I took it out of the player, it was covered in grease (it wasn't before). Cleaned the disc and tried again, it failed to load, just keeps searching. Tried other BRs and they wouldn't load either. A DVD would load.
Tried resetting the unit (holding power button for 3 seconds). No change.
The unit is 5 months old. This is my first Panasonic player. I'm not impressed.
Called Panasonic, and they suggested a firmware upgrade, which is my next step. Of course, since I bought this from Amazon, it is not covered under warranty in Canada (not an authorized dealer apparently), and I have no idea whether I can even get hold of Amazon to see whether they will do anything.
Update: Firmware updated, but problem still persists. Looks like the blue laser is shot.
Further updated: Called Amazon, and they shipped me a new one.
Hopefully this one lasts a while longer.
