Sony HDX589W No Sound When on TV

Hello All,

I am getting sound when playing DVDs and CDs but not when using just TV.  Followed instructions provided but wonder if I missed something.  I do have a cable box do you think I need to run audio through it directly to Sony system?

You should run the digital audio out from the cable box via digital coaxial (single RCA connector) or digital optical (Toslink) cable to the Sony unit.  You do NOT want to run the audio from the cable box to the TV, and then to the Sony unit.  The "Audio out" on the TV will not send anything more than 2.0 stereo audio.  You already have the video output from the cable box running to the TV, since the Sony unit doesn't have any video inputs.

When watching TV, you have to not only set the input on the TV, but you'll also need to switch sources on the Sony unit to whichever digital audio input you connected (it's also possible that both connections simply correspond to an "Aux" or some other similarly-named source).
