In Treatment Season 3 announced

Either there was never a thread on this show, or the search is totally useless (when I search for In Treatment in the title, I just get Babylon Five and posts about how to pitch a show from 2002)

Anyway, good news, HBO's "In Treatment" has been picked up for Season 3.

I haven't finished Season 2, I'm watching now, but Season 1 was really exceptional.

If there were old threads on Season 1/2, I'd love the links ;)

But enjoying Season 2 so far.

I didn't enjoy Season 2 as much as Season 1, but there were real-life changes in talent status that required some changes to the show. I plan on watching Season 3, but probably until until it's all done airing and I can watch it in a block, either via PVR or DVD/Blu-Ray. I don't know what the order looks like, but there were 43 episodes in S1, and 35 in S2.

Also, in thinking about this show, I just realized the reason I feel like I know Embeth Davidtz, who plays Felicia Koons on Californication, is because she played Amy ("Jake and Amy") on In Treatment.

Even amongst the really good bunch of actors on the show, Gabriel Byrne's performance stands out as exceptional. I can understand that this isn't what most want to watch (it's crushingly bleak at times) but it's too bad more people haven't seen this show.

If it's crushingly bleak at times, that's only because it's realistic, IMO. Sure there are times when someone has a temporary case of post partum depression and goes to a therapist, works it out, and goes on about life greeted by weekly rainbows. But a significant number of people who need therapy are never what the public at large would define as mentally healthy. I know a person who has been going to therapy for years (with what I think is a good therapist) who has developed all kinds of life coping skills, but she still said to me recently that she's tired of living and wishes should could just die. Crushingly bleak? Maybe. But the truth is, it's often extermely difficult to adjust the internal things within a person that gets the person to that place in the first place.

Does marriage counseling fix marriages, delay the inevitable, or keep people in unhappy marriages with little or no trust left? Does therapy help suicidal patients succeed in living happy lives, or just prolonging their miserable lives? Is a person who is in functional denial better off when he lets everything he has buried to the surface so that it can be discussed? What happens to that person during the time it takes to come to terms with whatever is buried?

Granted, I find psychology fascinating. But that said, I think this show does an excellent job covering the topic in an entertaining way.
