The Emmy® nominated series stars Larry Hagman (“I Dream of Jeannie”), Linda Gray (“Melrose Place”) and Barbara Bel Geddes (Vertigo) along with Patrick Duffy (“The Bold and the Beautiful”), Steve Kanaly (“All My Children”), Howard Keel (Seven Brides for Seven Brothers), Ken Kercheval (“Diagnosis Murder”),

Charlene Tilton (“The Love Boat”) and George Kennedy (Cool Hand Luke).

 

J.R. has always been a hound dog with the ladies and in Season 12 it all comes back to bite him. A dalliance with an Arkansas cutie leads J.R. to the wrong end of a shotgun, 10 years of hard labor, a prison break and the altar. And that’s just the start of 26 episodes of commotion and emotion that also include a tell-all movie (bankrolled by the first Mrs. J.R. Ewing) that threatens to unveil every low-down trick J.R. ever pulled and a rival oil man scheming to destroy the Ewing empire, taking the clan from Southfork all the way to Austria and Russia!

 

Dallas, the highly popular prime time television soap opera, ran from 1978 to 1991. It revolved around businessman J.R. Ewing and his wealthy Texas family in the oil and cattle-ranching industries. The show originally debuted in April 1978 as a five-part miniseries on the CBS network. However, the immense popularity would allow it to return for an additional 13 seasons. People the world over are still watching Dallas on cable as the series continues to find a whole new generation of viewers. Over its 14 seasons, Dallas garnered 17 Emmy®nominations and four wins, 14 Golden Globe® nominations and one win, and was the #1 or #2 rated network series for five consecutive seasons.  Seasons 1 through 11 are currently available on DVD.

i think the 12th season is about when Dallas ratings really fell off or were around 10M. I will still be buying the series.

You are right. It was a tie for 29th place with the "ABC Mystery Movie", and a 15.4 rating (Knots Landing beat it for the only time in its run, at 27th place [tied with the "CBS Sunday Movie"] and a 16.1 rating), compared to a 22nd place/16.6 finish last season (1987-1988), compared to a 11th place/21.3 rank in 1986-1987. It never ranked in the top 30 again.

It wasn't a miserable show in its last years; it was still pretty enjoyable. (Can't say the same for the last season each of Dynasty and Falcon Crest...!) BUT--even though the enthusiasm is probably waning for Dallas I'd like to see it through until Joel Gray sends J.R. to hell (or whatever the last episode was supposed to imply) and even though nobody likes them, I'd like to see the two tv movie follow-ups. Let's just get the thing completed!

it was a good show, but, when it lost Sue Ellen and Victoria Principal it was never the same. The addition of George Kennedy and Andrew Stevens did not help the show. Dallas late years reminded me off some other nightime soap operas that changed their cast.

I'm still itching to see "Dallas: The Early Years"; I'm guessing if The Waltons is any indication there'll be a three-movie set.
