threads i have posted on - Page 2

I went through and tested the subscription issue (not updating your edit subscriptions page). When I subscribed to a few threads using the feed, then checked the page, they had all been added appropriately.

If you run into this again, can you post the thread you were trying to subscribe to?

hi benjamin,

all the threads are currently showing on my profile.  whatever you did, must have worked - at least for the moment LOL .

but, now i went to my home page, where they had disappeared even a longer time ago.  and all of them are now appearing again on the home page.  no doubt in my mind there is some sort of computer programming bug.

thanks for all your time.  i will just use it to the best of my ability.

Your home tab will show all of your subscriptions, those you've posted in as well as those you haven't... so if you post in a thread, it will get pushed down over time.

Next time you run into this, click "more" at the bottom of the feed and see if you don't eventually get to the thread you had posted in.

Also, keep in mind that once you click into a thread, it will be "read", so the red number will disappear, and if anyone had posted after you, that will also be what's excerpted in the thread block on the feed page.

What would be very helpful is if you could take screen captures if you see this problem at every step. We will be in much better shape to help you if we can see what you're experiencing.

Sorry you're experiencing this issue of threads not appearing as expected in your profile page. If you use your home tab, and use the more button located on the bottom grey bar, you should be able to find any thread you've posted in.

When you experience this issue, would you mind taking screen captures? That will help us track down exactly what's happening. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

Hi all!  First, a big big thanks to both Michael Reuben and Mike Frezon for jumping right in.

It sounds like there are a few different issues being discussed here.  I've been testing a few things and wanted to report back to hopefully clarify a bit to figure out where the issues are.

  1. Autosubcribe via the "Subscribe" check box at the bottom of threads should be working in all browsers.  When you have the "Subscribe" check box checked, you will automatically be subscribed to a thread after you submit a reply.  To verify this, you can check your Subscription Management page.
  2. When you are subscribed to content, you should be able to view your subscriptions only by clicking the "Subscriptions Only" button in the right corner of the home page activity feed.  When you view this content, the square next to the Subscriptions Only button will be blue and all of the icons next to your subscribed content will also be blue.  The red number below the thread indicates the number of new posts since your last visit to the thread.
  3. On the home page, you will see only 10 activity items (until you click the "More" button at the bottom).  Regardless of which content filters you're viewing, the first time you view the activity stream on the home page, you will see up to 10 activity items.  If you are viewing subscriptions only and have fewer then 10 subscriptions, you will see this number (rather than 10).
  4. When you are viewing the full activity feed (rather than just subscriptions), some items will have subscribe buttons on them.  These are items which you have not subscribed to.  According to our tests, subscribing via these buttons is working a-okay too.

In terms of the behavior you've been seeing on the home page, jimmyjet, when you are viewing Subscriptions Only on your home page, are there any particular subscriptions which are not displaying?  If you could provide specific URLs to threads you have posted in and subscribed to, it would be great to test these cases.  If you do not feel comfortable sharing that info here, feel free to PM me.  My testing primarily focused on Firefox 3.5.5 and Firefox 3.0.15.  Firefox 3.0.15 appeared to behave properly and I couldn't replicate the home page issues you've described.  After testing the specific threads you're having trouble with, if you could also let me know if you have any plugins running on your Firefox, I'll check to see if there's any strange interference might be going on.

As for the profile page!

Ed did a great job deducing what's actually happening right now.  We have a bug on user profile pages which is causing threads to disappear from Your Recent Activity on your profile page after someone else has posted to it.  So right now, unless you're the last poster in the thread, it won't show up on your profile page activity feed.  The intended behavior of course is that all your activity will display there regardless of how many other folks have replied since your post.  We will be releasing a few updates to the site this week which will include a fix for this issue.  I'll let you know as soon as the fix is deployed but the estimate from the engineering team will be Thursday morning.

I have one suggestion, Jimmy, that may help the others in determining what's happening. Can you capture a screen shot of your browser window (Alt-PrintScreen) and then post some images of what you're seeing? Then perhaps it'll be easy to see if there is simply a setting wrong or there is a problem in the software.

hi bill,
dont know how to capture and post images (i dont have a scanner or printer, if needed).

hi christina,
i think we are at least now all on the same page.  we all agree as to how the profile page is currently working.  benjamin did something to enable me to see my threads on the home page.  that was the initial problem, at the beginning.  so i am not sure there is any lingering problem at the moment for me - regarding the home page.  all the threads i have posted on have continued to appear since these postings.  and i only started using the profile page, cuz the home page wasnt working.  the only option that i care about is seeing all the threads that i have posted on, and then if there are any replies - THAT IS CURRENTLY WORKING ON THE HOME PAGE.

thanks again for all the quick responses.
