threads i have posted on

i suspect this has already been asked, but could not find it when i scanned down the page.

i liked the feature of my home page listing the threads that i had posted on.  i could immediately see if there were any other replies.

i would think that this would be something that most users would desire.

is there a way for me to adjust my settings to place it back ?

Click on "Subscriptions Only" at the upper right of the home page. This will return the display to those threads to which you've subscribed, as it was previously.

Also, if you want to limit the list to threads only, uncheck the boxes (so that they're no longer green) for HT Great & Movies, Wikis and Profiles.

hi michael,

that did not seem to make any difference.

the subscription only box is blue, and only the forum box is green, now.

Under  "settings" (under Subscriptions), make sure "Summary View" is checked. If it's checked and you're still having a problem, then something is seriously wrong. Please list your browser and operating system so that Huddler programmers can check this out.

when i checked summary view, it did eliminate many threads, but it did not change it back to the old way.  it is listing threads that seem to have been posted to recently, but only posting one reply instead of a bunch of replies on each thread.

I thought that was what you wanted:

What am I missing?

The home page has been redesigned. It's never going to look exactly as it did before.

I'm scratching my head on this one, Michael.  I wonder if Jimmy's really got the Summary View selected.  It sounds like he's saying he sees multiple posts in his list now as opposed to the old design when there was just a single listing per thread.

But I can't be sure.

Mike, your screenshot software produces better images than mine. Would you mind posting an image of how the home page should look with the proper options selected?

thanks guys,

let me try to restate more clearly.

before, the home screen had an area that showed just the threads that i had made posts on.  i could quickly see if there were any replies.

now, it shows recent forum activity in all categories, from what i can tell.  so mostly that is useless, to me.

and i would suspect that i am not alone, in this regard.

personally, i joined up because i am buying tv shows on dvd.  that is pretty much the only thing that i was interested in.  the home page had shown me the tv show threads that i had posted on, and i could always go on the forum to see new threads that might catch an interest.

i thought maybe we could design our own home page, to some extent.  that is not uncommon.  in other words, check various sections if you want them to display or not.  and hopefully one of the various sections was threads that one had actually posted on.

Okay, Jimmy.  I think we can get you there.

Do you see in the image I posted above how I only have the "Forums" button selected on my home page (just under the title "Recent Home Theater Forum Activity")?

Make sure you have ONLY "Forums" selected.

You also want to select the button that says "Subscriptions Only."

Then, click the settings button and select "summary view."  That should just give you a list of the Forum Threads in which you have posted.

Let Michael and I know if it's not working out that way for you.

We both have a handle on what you want.  This should accomplish it for you...unless we're not communicating ourselves well enough to you.

thanks michael and mike,

you had been clear, before.

so i was able to check all the boxes, as was suggested.

i am still left with what seems to be recent forum activity by anyone, in any of the forums.

if the subscription button is what tells the software to only show the threads that the poster has posted to - then i guess that is what is not working, for me.

but at least it is part of the design, and probably working for most people, since it does not seem like you have gotten many complaints about it - which i think you would have, if it wasnt working at all.

thank you for trying.
Yup.  The "Subscriptions Only" button is the one which means that only the threads you had posted in would display on your home page.

I cannot imagine why, if you have that button properly selected (it's an on/off type button), you would be seeing threads other than those to which you are subscribed.    And, of course, those threads--when something new is posted by another member--will get bumped to the top of your list.  Or, at least that's how it should work.

If that is the case, my guess is Michael will have the Huddler staff (our new platform partners) look into what is causing the anomaly with your situation.

What you see in the image I posted above is a snapshot of my subscribed threads at the time I captured the image.

Just a couple more things to check.

"Summary view" must be checked in addition to those items.

Are you sure you're on the Home Page? You're not in your profile page looking at recent activity?

Finally, before concluding that this isn't working just for one user (which wouldn't make much sense), please log out, exit your browser, restart your browser, log in again and reselect the options. This may be something as simple as clearing cookies.

yes, on the home page.  have everything clicked, as instructed.  it simply isnt working for me.

thats okay - i dont want you spending valuable programming time, just for me.

firefox is reasonably common, so i suspect that others are running it, and not having a problem.

Jimmy:  The dot next to "Subscriptions Only" shows as blue for you?  That's the indicator that it is selected.

If the dot is gray it means ALL threads (not just the ones you are subscribed to).

yes, the dot is blue.

but i discovered a fix-it. the home page still doesnt work.

but if i go to my profile page, there is no subscription button, but i click on the other buttons so that only forums show, and the summary view.

and i get just the threads that i have posted to, like old times.  weird thing is - when i go back to my profile, all the buttons show green again, but it still only shows me my threads.

so bottom line for at least the moment, it seems like i can close my browser, re-open it, and get just my threads, even though the buttons are all green again.

i appreciate your timeliness and effort.

my profile had been showing all the threads that i had posted on.  i think it got up to 9.  then it went down to 6.  today it is displaying 5.  all the threads are still there.

could you explain to me how that section of my profile works ?  what are the parameters used, in determining whether or not to display a thread on "your recent activity" .  the holy grails thread is one of my most recent, and it seems to show, then drop off - while others show that i havent posted on for a much longer time.
Your home page should show all your subscribed threads.  If you are subscribed to nine, there should be nine threads showing.  I am fairly confident about that...I don't think there are time parameters which would dump your older threads off the page until they are "reactivated" again.

It's hard for me to say, though, I think I am subscribed to more than 1600 threads.  I've got pages and pages of them.  But my understanding is they are all there...with the ones posted-in most recently pushed to the top of my list on the home page.  But...I could be wrong.  Sorry I'm not more help on this matter.
If you are subscribed to nine threads, all nine should show on your home page list.

It's hard for me to be sure, as I am subscribed to 1600+ threads...so I've got pages and pages.  But I'm pretty sure the way it works is that all subscribed threads are shown with the ones more recently posted-in pushed to the top of the list.

I don't think there's any time parameters which would cause any of your subscribed threads to fall off the list.

Sorry I'm not more help.  Maybe a moderator will stop by and be able to sort things out for you.

thanks mike,

that is how it was working.  everytime i posted on a new thread, it showed up.  now when i look,  only 4 are on there - LOL !
I have an idea. This caused me some concern last week but I think I figured it out. Clicking HOME take you to "Recent HTF Activity" this is the subscribed threads page. This thread will be bumped to the top when I post. Clicking MY PROFILE brings up "Your Recent Activity." I think (hope) that if someone post after you it bumps off that page. Like mine shows my Yankees avatar upload last even though I have posted several times since. Hope a mod can confirm this as how it is.

hi ed,

that is not how it had been working for me.  once i posted on a thread, it stayed in my profile.  on some of the threads, i had posted last, on others i had not.  i could glance down the threads, and see if anyone else had posted.

hi ed,

it did reappear after i made the previous post.

i actually hit a "subscribe" button for each of the 5 threads currently showing - hoping that will keep it in my profile, irregardless of anything else.  and then if i get tired of it, i can always unsubscribe.

hi ed,

when i go back to my profile, it does not remember that i subscribed to the threads, because it once again has the subscribe button.  when i subscribe, it changes the little avatar from black to blue.

Jimmy:

We may be reaching a breakthrough here.  I think you are confused about something.  See the image I've posted below.

In the upper right-hand corner there is a button that says "Subscriptions Only."  That is NOT what you click to subscribe to threads.  Depending upon the setting in your profile, you can subscribe to threads whenever you post in them (or not).  Or, you can subscribe to threads by clicking the "Subscribe" button which can be found in this thread directly underneath the last post.

The button in the upper right-hand corner simply tells you (when the dot is blue) that only your subscribed threads are displayed on your home page.  If you de-select the button turning the dot gray, all threads with recent posts will be displayed (even if you are NOT subscribed to them).  I hope that helps clear things up here.

thanks mike,

i was aware of that.

the way i am set up, the "subscribe to this post" is defaulted to yes, when i make a post.

what i did was also go to my profile, and add a subscription to each of the threads that were showing.  by that, i mean i stopped at the thread, which highlights it.  it will then display first post, last post, subscribe. when you hit subscribe, it shows an extra little message.  but when i re-display my profile, it does not remember any of this, showing each thread with a subscribe button.

so i just finished going thru all my posts, and calling up each thread once, and again subscribing.  so hopefully, i am subscribed to all of the posts in which i have posted.

ed does seem to be correct about how the threads are working now.  cuz when i went to my profile, i had lost a thread.  i was able to figure out which one, because i had just posted.  it was this one.  and sure enough, you had just posted.  once i post this, it will probably re-appear.

sure would like to see it back to the old way of all my subscriptions appearing !!!!

I hope someone from Huddler--or an administrator--stops by to help out.

Hey jimmyjet. I'm sorry you're having this issue... sometimes the subscriptions take a moment to update on your page. Just curious, but did you try hitting the refresh button? Or were you seeing the refresh icon on the feed itself?

I'm taking a look at your threads to see what's going on.

thanks benjamin,

yes, i was hitting the refresh button.

ed is exactly correct in how it is working now.  it currently shows just the posts that i have made the last post.  then when someone else posts, it disappears.

so once again, when i just went back, the count had dropped.  when nothing new on the tv show had changed, i knew someone must have posted on this one in the feedback forum, and sure enough, you have.

so at least i can tell you how it is currently working, for me.  but i might add, that the previous problem was and still does exist for me, but it did not seem to exist for most anyone else.

i was a computer programmer, so i suspect there is some option that i am or am not using, that may be causing your system some problems.

one thing that may make me different from most users, is that i am only really here for the tv shows.  all my posts are on this forum, excpet of course for this in the feedback forum.
