I am seeing the same issue, I will report it right away. Sorry for the problem with the subscription filter, I'll keep you posted.

I've got to say that I think Sumner makes a good point.  Aren't any changes to the software tested to determine if there are going to be any obvious side-effects when implemented?

It seems as if almost any time updates are pushed through, there is some kind of ripple effect throughout the community where normal forum functions are affected.

With all due respect, Sumner hasn't made a "point". He's offered a speculation. I was on the forum during the time this happened, and it never went down, as it usually does when there's a software update. Also, Ben has joined this thread, confirming that he sees the problem, and he has never hesitated to say so when there's been a software update. So maybe this is an occasion where it would make sense to withhold judgment until there's more information.

Just wanted to add that I'm not aware of any update that took place... this situation could be the result of many factors, and I'll definitely get back to you as soon as I know more. I apologize for the inconvenience, here, I know it makes it hard to get to your stuff quickly.

And it's already fixed (at least on my homepage).

Image uploading is fixed -- sorry, that was my bug.  We moved to new, more reliable image storage last night, and I forgot one step.

Regarding the subscription issue, a bug fix was pushed last night, but was clearly inadequately tested.  I've reverted the fix, and we'll have a better one out later today.

While Sumner may have been speculating as to whether this particular instance was the result of a software update, the number of times it has been the case led me to say that it's a fair point to consider that a number of such changes have led to negative impacts on forum function.

Also, since I had to log back onto the forum this morning, I figured some software change had been pushed.  It, too, has been an indicator that some things have been changed behind-the-scenes.

And, as it turns out, his speculation was correct.

So, just so I'm clear on this, these types of bugs are happening for EVERY huddler site when they occur right?  That's the whole brilliant part of the Huddler platform that you don't have to do site updates yourself on your own schedule but that the service does it for you at unexpected and sometimes random and unannounced times?  ie it's the difference between Wordpress and Blogger looking at it from a weblog perspective?

To answer your question, a bug of this kind does affect every site. And yes, part of the good part for forums is that it's no longer the burden of one person to become an expert on a piece of shrink-wrapped forum software. Huddler does the updates on behalf of the forum, but we do make mistakes, and I apologize for that. My understanding of how this problem cropped up was during a minor bug fix for something totally unrelated, but it had one of those unintended consequences that was not foreseen. Even with the best of intentions, sometimes bugs of this sort creep in. I apologize for the disruption in service.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. I regard a "software update" as the big rollouts that add new features and that are frequently the subject of disappointment when they don't address outstanding problems. I regard a "bug fix" as a response to a flaw that's been identified in the software, often as a result of these reports.

Sometimes bug fixes inadvertently break things and have to be fixed themselves. This happens all the time. It happened routinely on vBulletin, as Parker can attest. And it's usually easily addressed, as Frank showed this morning.

But that's just my personal opinion. I reported what I saw, and I'm happy it's being fixed.

A sort of  OT but may everyone have a good Thanksgiving and don't eat too much and enjoy Detroit and Oakland games and good luck for BLACK FRIDAY!
