Question about HDMI/SVideo input/output in home theaters + recommandation

Hello.
I've been thinking of buying a flatscreen tv as well as the home theater system required.

I've been thinking of going with the Samsung LN40A530 for the tv.
I'm currently undecided on the home theater system.

So, the receiver will need an HDMI output for the TV.

Since i'd like to plug a ps3 as well as my pc in the system, so i can play/use my pc.
PS3 requires HDMI if my memory is right, and my pc has either svideo or hdmi.
Thus, i'd require 2 HDMI input (or 1 hdmi and 1 svideo). Am I correct?

This leads to my second point: recommendation.
I want a home theater system with 5.1 surround sound with 1 output and at least 2 input for my pc and ps3.

Since i'm in a small appartment, I don't need loud speakers. Less than 1000w is more than acceptable in my case. I'd also need to be able to control the bass and treble (as some sound system doesn't seem to offer that option.)

What would you recommend?

Thanks for your time and help

Welcome to the forum.  There's a section on TV's that can answer your TV question(s).  There's a section on Receivers for those questions.

In my opinion, you don't want a receiver that allows you to control bass and treble.  You want a receiver with an automatic calibration system that will set your tone controls (or in my case a 3 band EQ) based on your speakers and room acoustics.

There are many receivers on the market that have multiple HDMI in and many have more than one out. You can even buy complete systems with the speakers included with the receiver. Since you are in an apartment and you don't want a lot of power I would look into what is called a Home Theater In a Box that includes the receiver and all the speakers. They will have the multiple HDMI inputs you are looking for to use with your PS3 and PC. They are made by companies like Sony and Panasonic. You can go check them out at places like Best Buy, Sears, etc. Your PC will need to have HDMI out or a DVI to HDMI dongle that usually is specific to the card you are using. You will also need the appropriate software to watch your movies on your new set. Something like Arcsoft Total Media Theater is a great program if you want to watch Blu-ray on your new monitor off your PC.

As far as the TV goes it really comes down to what looks good to you. They are pretty much all going to give you a great picture and what you think is great is up to you. It also depends on your budget. The Samsung you listed is a nice set. Panasonic, LG and Sony make good looking sets too. Go check out a place where you can see them side by side.
