The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--One special note.  Wal-Mart has it's own EXCLUSIVE BLU-RAY RELEASE of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.  Their "Two Disc Big Screen Edition" includes the scenes of the feature shot in IMAX included in the film (similar to the Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight.)  AND...a recently released Wal-Mart flyer which hit the internet shows the price to be just $19.96!

--There are the usual price discrepancies, this week, between the Best Buy flyer and bestbuy.com on a number of new release titles.  So, if you are thinking of picking up a title at your local store, you MAY want to consider doing a purchase on BB.com and an in-store pickup.

--Best Buy, this week, will have one of its DOORBUSTER DEALS for the release of Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen.  Go to your local Best Buy store during the first two hours they are open on Tuesday, October 20 and get $3 off the Blu-ray and $2 off the DVD.  Some stores may have Midnight Events for this release.  Go to bestbuy.com/transformers for details.  In-store only.  Doorbuster discount does not apply to bestbuy.com pre-orders or sales.  Stores with midnight openings will have Doorbuster pricing for BOTH the midnight opening AND the first two regular business hours on October 20, 2009.

--Best Buy also has an EXCLUSIVE LIMITED EDITION BLU-RAY GIFT SET for $44.99.  Includes Optimus Prime replica and a $50 gift card to sideshowcollectibles.com

--Best Buy also has an EXCLUSIVE RELEASE of Iron Man: Armored Adventures on DVD and Blu-ray.  See grids above for prices.

--Best Buy has the following Blu-ray discs on-sale:

$9.99:  Reservoir Dogs, Swordfish, Gothika, Beerfest, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2, Terminator 3, Punisher, Chaos.

$12.99:  Halloween (1978), Children of the Corn, Hellraiser, Halloween (2007), Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Dawn of the Dead, Dead Calm, Snakes on a Plane.

--Best Buy Odds and Ends:  A number of DVD "thrillers" are priced at $4.99 and $6.99.

--Target, this week, has one of its EXCLUSIVE ROBOTIC PACKAGING for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen on either DVD ($26.99 for SE) or Blu-ray $29.99).  Only at Target!  Transformers 2-disc deluxe DVD set and Blu-ray both come with limited edition Bumblebee packaging that transforms into a 14" tall robot.  Quantities limited.  No rainchecks.

--Target Odds and Ends: A list of DVD titles for $10.

12:03am.   Where were you Mike?  j/k     Oh, to see the summer movies start to hit the Roundup.   Our b&m BB hasn't opened yet so I'll probably get Transformers 2 disc dvd at Wal Mart with my nephews employee discount.  Planes, Trains & Automobiles is on order from Deep Discount.  Thanks for the Roundup.  The next 3 months I'll be using it a lot more than I have for quite a while.

Legit question.

Watching the baseball game...and then finding my computer to be a little sluggish.

Now...off to bed.

You're going to bed right after ARod's tying homerun?    Course with the rain starting to hit this one might get delayed or postponed.  Anyway, thanks for the help saving $$$ on my dvds.

It'll be interesting to see if this one get's finished tonight.

No talk of "big green blobs" over NYC on the satellite maps by the weatherguys via Buck & McCarver.
I was on the fence about Transformers 2 until I saw the Wal-mart deal. Sold!
Thanks, Mike. We can all count on you to make us smarter shoppers. :)
Hmmm...  When the B&M CC died, people thought there will be less competition for BB and Amazon to keep prices in check, etc.  But seems like Walmart (and even Target on occasion) has stepped up to do more than what CC ever did for the pricing competition (at least for Blu-rays anyway as far as I can tell)...

And thanks, Mike, for yet another weekly roundup  -- even though (much like you) I don't often go for release week deals.   BTW, have you considered adding Walmart to your weekly price table yet?  Seems like they deserve a spot there at least as much as (if not much more so than) Target and Costco me thinks...

And oh, I must've tuned into the game just when you gave you up ... nice (if bloopy) finish for the Yanks, but guess we'll take 'em anyway they come...

I think the DVD is a movie called Teeth. That Halloween Blu-ray is the 2007 remake (so both the original and remake are on sale for $13 each).

This week is a total FAIL.  Unless I hear of a good unadvertised special on something I want, another lacking week.  That's good...gives me time (and money) to track down some missing Walt Disney Treasures online.  :)
I will have to check out reviews first, but I might have to double dip on Fawlty Towers!

I agree. I avoid buying new shiny discs at Wally World but when they drop prices down that low for a new Blu, I will march in and grab a copy! In fact, I'll be blind buying Megan Fox Robot Movie 2!

I kinda think I'll be doing the same thing.

Man:  Wal-Mart's not a good fit for the RoundUp because (if you read the weekly disclaimer:  Paragraph 3) it's a store that1.) engages in regional pricing, and 2.) often price matches whenever local stores advertise lower prices.  So--bottom line--prices at W-M tend to be all over the place.

I remember years ago, doing a separate price table for only Wal-Mart prices for a particular big release.  I think it might have been the release of the original Star Wars Trilogy on DVD.  It was really amazing how different the prices were.

Ooooh...  Good point about Walmart's regional pricing being a problem.  I don't live near one, so haven't seen it firsthand.  I generally only see what's listed for their online site -- usually when I check one of the price search engines (eg. dvdpricesearch.com).  Do they still practice regional pricing?

Also, would it make sense to include just Walmart's online prices (under Walmart.com)?  Most folks might not actually order from there, but their online site might still serve as a good reference point for shoppers though, especially since Amazon tends to match their prices quite regularly these days.

I will be interested to see what my local Walmart has Transformers 2 for.  There is no online ad for my area :(
post #18 of 41
Junior REALLY wants that new Transformers movie, but it sounds awful.  On the other hand, it also sounds like the extra features might be worth $20.

Transformers 2 is now listed for 19.99 at amazon  (Follow the link in Mike's first post)
Thanks Neil.  I edited.  Now to decide if its Amazon or see what Walmart has their version for....
I have been ordering my recent Blu's by clicking on the amazon tag in the fine reviews (no bias here, of course) - but I am too curious to see the IMAX footage on the Wal Mart exclusive..I think I will stop by on my way to work, there's a Wal Mart less than three minutes from my house.
Neil-  It may come down to price.  It my local WM has it for $19.96 I'll get it, if not I'll pick it up at Amazon.  There is no flyer for my local WM, so I have no idea wht to expect.
Just got back from WallyWorld with Transformers 2 on BD. Both the Blu-ray and the 2-disc DVD were 19.96.

I sure hope this pricing continues.
Its nice to see that the BD is priced as low as the DVD.
I wanted to mention, for anyone that wanted Ichi The Killer on Blu-Ray, it appears that it was delayed again at the last minute.
Best Buy and Amazon have both changed the release date on their sites to 11/24.
Got Transformers 2 at my Wal Mart also for $19.96 (minus my nephew's employee discount of $2 & $3 for the Papa John's coupon which brought the 2 discer to $14.96 + tax. Sweet).
Amazon shipped my order T2 and charged me $24.99. I hope I get credit for the release day price.

You will, Michael.  At least that's what my experience with pre-ordering Snow White from amazon tells me.  I got an e-mail notification from them in a day or two about my bank account being credited the difference.

Is the only way to get the Papa John's ticket to go to a local store?  Are they on the internet anywhere?

Between the T2 disc I just purchased and the Snow White deal ($19.96 - $10 coupon), Wal Mart is fast becoming my go-to place to purchase Bluray discs.  I just picked up Transformers 2 on blu for $13.  There were four shelf slots for the bluray and all four had $13.00 price tags.  The product description matched so I grabbed a disc and checked the upc - it matched too.  I carried it to the electronics counter and told her about the $13 shelf tags and asked her to check the price.  It came up as $19.96.  She walked over and checked the upc and description on the shelf tags like I had done and offered to match the price without me even asking.

On a tangent...Walmart.com and Amazon.com are currently having a price war over new release hardcover books.  Many upcoming "big name" releases (Stephen King, Koontz, Patterson) are only $9 each for hardcover.

My local Wal-Mart store still sucks on prices because they have no major competitors within 40 miles. New release DVD's are always $19.96 for the single disc and usually $22.96-$24.96 for any 2-disc versions. Blu-ray is $29.96 and up. It's sad but I frequently find better deals at the local FYE (usually with their mail-in rebate). And online, of course.
