Do all Blu Ray players not use the surrounds?

I am thinking about returning my Blu Ray player. The surrounds don't work for my old standard Def DVDs? Is that the case for all Blu Ray players?
Thanks

I'm inclinded to think you have something set wrong in the setup menu.  What model Blu-ray player do you have and how is it connected to your audio system.

A few more questions.  Is it connected to a receiver?  If so what is the model?  Are you using HDMI, toslink or a coax digital cable to connect the Blu-ray player?  What are some DVDs you have tried?  What does your receiver show in the display when a DVD is being played?

It looks like you have provided more info about the same issue here: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/forum/thread/293805/surround-speakers-aren-t-working so I am going to go ahead and close this thread.
