"30 Rock" returns for a 4th season on the heels of yet another Emmy win for Best Comedy show on TV, 9:30 p.m.EDT after "The Office" on NBC.

Looking forward to this. Here's hoping they continue the success of the last few years.

Same time as Supernatural and Fringe, so I'm going to have to pass. This sucks.
^ I face a similar dilema but I'm sure it'll be on nbc.com tomorrow for free. I'd assume the same for Supernatural and Fringe on their respective sites.

I thought it was great. Putting this and The Office back-to-back is the best comedy pairing since the heyday of NBC's Must See Thursdays with Cheers and Seinfeld.

I may be alone, but the first episode of the series (IMHO) to be REALLY not funny, and too inside baseball.  I mean, how many people in the audience got the Jeremy Piven/Speed the Plow joke?  If you're going to tell the joke and have it slightly changed to represent Jenna, it REALLY gets lost, but unless you know a broadway story it's not even funny.

I enjoyed the premiere, but that made not a lot of sense.

The XFL posters in the back of the "Dealbreakers" TV show.. classic NBC failure material.

The HD camera was classic!

Any thoughts on how 30 Rock will handle NBC's sale to Comcast? What will become of Jack?
The sale hasn't gone through, yet. And if it does it will be a couple of years before Comcast owns it. I think the show could work around that.
It most certainly will not take years. Even the most complicated mergers close within a period of months. There's no guarantee NBC would stay at 30 Rockefeller Center, although it is likely.

I like that Cerie's mother was somehow born in 1976.

Back to Back eps.   Kind of "eh" actually, as far as I was concerned.. the Gossip Girl / Jenna bit was pretty funny.
"eh"?  "EH"?  "EH?"  No "eh"!  No way!  Those were the funniest two shows of the season!  I laughed my ass off the entire hour!  It was incredibly humor dense, packed with jokes, asides, and absurd situations that required frequent DVR rewinding.

"I've lemoned it"
"Albino Monk!"
"My friend Tom"

And I especially peed a little when Jenna read the lines in synch with the stand in during the audition.  They could have kept that joke going for 10 minutes.

And just for the record, Bob Ballard (the one who brought the amphora of Phoenician wine) is a real person.

No "eh"!

I agree; two terrific episodes. Best show on television!

What's it say about me that I didn't even notice that I watched an hour of "30 Rock" on Thursday?
Recent sense-of-humor-ectomy?

Would have also accepted: Spending too much time watching DVR'd episodes of The Jay Leno Show (although the latter would have required the former).

ETA: And the latter can cause the former!

Admit it Adam, you were too busy anticipating the upcoming The Jay Leno Show to pay attention to 30 Rock.

Maybe it's just my taste.  From two episodes I thought were primarily filler quality, is week was great fun.  The playout of Comcast/NBC, pornography as a prime funding host, and Tracy's reveal as a non-adulterer.. good stuff :)

Loved all of the pornographified film titles. Wish Comcast was as good of a sport about being parodied as GE has been.

My two favorite porn titles from Kabletown: "Ghosts of Missy's Pee-Pee" and "Horny with a Chance of My Balls."

Also:

"Hans Gruber...Die Hard."

My wife liked "Ghosts of Missy's Peepee"  the best, but I was partial to "Horny With a Chance of My Balls" myself.  I also appreciated the simplicity of "Tits Complicated" (which stars, I presume, Meryl Stripper and Alec Balls-In) and the convoluted "Fresh-Ass Based On the Novel Tush by Assfire".

Shit, I completely missed "The Lovely Boners" and "Sherlock Homos" -- didn't DVR this one, and only had a couple of seconds to glance at the screen. Love this show.
I'm surprised that they got away with Tits Complicated.

You can say 'ass' and 'homo' on TV but I thought 'tits' might get you some FCC trouble.

The FCC is investigating. So far they have not been unable to find Kabletown.

You have to remember Carlin's seven dirty words: Shit, Piss, Fuck, Cunt, Cocksucker, Motherfucker and Tits. They've become the FCC's de facto line of demarcation for obscenity.
I've heard people say tits on TV before and they said piss earlier in Parks and Rec.

After 10 p.m. EST, you can also say "Shit" on broadcast network if you list language/profanity on the TV warning for the show, the Standards department allowed Mark Greene to say it on his last episode on E.R.

Carlin's obscene words list is from the 1970s, times change.

On network TV before 10 PM? I'm sure it's happened but I bet it's pretty rare. After 10 PM and before 6 AM is safe harbor and a channel or network can theoretically say or show any thing they want during that time. That's why ER could get away with saying shit. Plus, ER was a highly respected show so the FCC would never fine NBC over that because they'd look even more idiotic than normal.

For the record, I'm not offended by tits. The word or the body part.
