*** Official COUPLES RETREAT Review Thread

"Couples Retreat" is supposedly a comedy following 4 couples to a couples retreat set in a tropical island resort setting (called Eden), and features a solid cast (Vince Vaughn, Jon Favreau, Jason Bateman, Faizon Love, Malin Ackerman, Kristen Bell, Kristin Davis, and Kali Hawk).  So what could go wrong?

It might have been a little more interesting had it gone for R-rated material, but with a PG-13 cut, there just seemed to be a lot of scenes that got stopped a little too early.  That being said, the film has a few laughs, but not enough to salvage a lot of boring and pointless footage that comprised of the rest of the film.  The screenplay commits the cardinal sin of not building up characters and the result is a set of very underwhelming arcs and resolutions in the final act.

I give it 2 stars, or a grade of C.

My view of the movie basically mirrors Patrick's. Admittedly, this isn't really my type of movie but based on the cast, I figured I'd give it a shot and I didn't think it was that funny. I think the trailers and commercials for this movie are the dictionary definition of showing all the jokes in the ad campaign. Everything that I found funny, I had already seen in the ads and that killed the jokes for me.
