Altering older movie posters to capitalize on a new movie...

I was over at the Digital Bits and they had the dvd cover for the upcoming blu-ray release of After Dark.  And this was the cover.




Now this looks remarkably like the Twilight cover....



I have seen re-issues where a star in an older movie got popular and they put them front and center on a dvd cover, even if they weren't a big star in the movie.  Anyone else have any instances of this?

Its a Lionsgate thing. They recently re-issued the 1987 kiddie horror flick The Gate and came up with cover art that looks like Haley Joel Osment in a Lord of the Rings-type setting; its hilarious. When The Wrestler came out in theaters and was well received, they re-issued the forgotten 1988 crime  drama Johnny Handsome with Kill Bill-type artwork just to capitalize on the current movie. (It was the same old fullscreen Artisan transfer). Who's running the marketing departments at these joints?

That Near Dark cover is the worst.

First off fans of Near Dark probably don't like a film like Twilight and vice versa. That was the most shalemess try to get more money rip off I ever have seen. (case being updated to con people into a Twilight type film.)

I think Near Dark could sell on its own merits it has a cult status. Twilight would only hurt Near Dark.

It may be mean but I think it's kinda funny if a Twilight fan goes and buys Near Dark expecting the same type of movie.

Would someone really think 'Gee, that looks the same like a Twilight cover, it might be something for me?' I think that's odder than altering the cover to lift off a hype.
