For only a 5.1 system setup what would be the best brand and type of speakers are recommended?.. Although im sure i will have to get a new reciever b.c i currently have a JVC RX-D201... as far as wattage and power i will prolly have to get a new one for which ever speakers you all recommend. This 600 will hopefully will include the sub.. but i just want your opinion... Also if i need to spend a few hundred (max) more for 7.1 if this is what is recommended, as long as the wife does not complain for more speakers sitting around, i can probably do so!!?????????

It's hard to just recommend brands because not everyone likes the same type of sound. But here are some pretty good deals to point you in the right direction.
I'd look into the Energy "C" series from www.audioadvisor.com/products.asp, the Boston Acoustics "C" series from TheNerds.com CS225C center, CS26 fronts and CS23 for surrounds (both priced as "each", not pairs) and a sub from PartsExpress. Also consider the Infinity Beta's if you can add a little to the budget. Onecall.com has the C-250 center for $72.97 + shipping. The Beta 20 bookshelves go for around $180-200 a pair, shipped. I really like these for the price. You may not like them, though. The nearly identicle OWS-1 on-wall speakers go for around $100 a pair used on ebay. They make great surrounds to match the Beta 20's.
Another good place to look is ebay stores from Harman Kardon (JBL and Infinity), Klipsch (Athena and Klipsch) and Polk. There's always a good supply of refurbished speakers to chose from, with factory warranty.
And don't discard the used market. I've put together a 7 channel setup with some Infinity Kappa 5.1's, Reference 5's, Infintesimal IV's and a Kappa center off ebay and Craigslist for about $375. Sounds pretty darn good.
None of these will be "great" sounding speakers but they will provide a lot of enjoyment.
