BURBANK, Calif., September 13, 2009 – Walt Disney Home Entertainment is proud to releaseZorro, one of

the most popular television shows in history on DVD November 3, 2009. The latest addition to the celebrated

Walt Disney Treasures, Zorro, makes its fully restored black & white DVD debut. All 78 episodes of the

timeless classic will be included on two new six-disc sets--making up the ninth installment of the popular Walt

Disney Treasures, and for the first time, will be housed in collectible black, numbered unique tin cases.

From 1957 to 1959, Disney’s Zorro was one of the most popular series on television starring Guy Williams,

Henry Calvin, and Gene Sheldon. The show helped transform the literary character Don Diego de la Vega into

the ultimate iconic, beloved swashbuckling masked hero of the time. The adventures ofZorro and his trusty

steed Tornado have captivated audiences since their inception, gaining new audiences when it was re-aired on

the Disney Channel in 1983 and re-colorizing the episodes in the 1990s. After the series conclusion, the Zorro

adventures lived on from 1960 to 1961 on Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color in the form of a four-episode

anthology series of hour-long Zorro specials, all of which are also included in Walt Disney Treasures Wave IX.

Both debut Walt Disney Treasures sets are hosted by noted film historian, author and critic Leonard Maltin.

Each limited edition, individually numbered volume includes a Zorro pin, an authenticity certificate, exclusive

Got all the other waves, so I'm in for this too.

Funny thing I've noticed over the years, a particular Treasure that I might not be hot for at the time of release often times becomes quite enjoyable down the road when I'm more willing to give it a chance.

Hasn't this mistakenly been placed in "Film and Documentary" instead of "TV Shows and TV Movies"?

About that "suggested retail price" -- I have a few suggestions of my own.

Why?  Each are six disc sets with roughly 39 episodes on each, much more than any current TV show.  Mad Men's 13 episode seasons go for $50; CSI S8 with 17 episodes is $50, too.  Seems fine by me.

I've had these pre-ordered since the spring.  I made a mistake giving up on the set a long time ago and started playing catch up this year.  Double bonus points since Zorro is something the BF has said he would watch with me.

I only get old TV series, from the '50s through 1975 or so, and I'm used to lower prices.  Also, I've gotten every single Treasures Wave so far, and they weren't priced this high.

^ No WDT set has been more than 2 discs before.  You pay more for more content.  It's quite simple.

Ummm...this wave can be had from Amazon for a total of about 80 bucks.  In previous years, a Treasure would retail for about 25 bucks, but there were typically 4 in a wave.  Sooo, by my math this is hardly outrageous pricing for a Treasures wave.

6 DVDs per set. That's three times the normal Disney Treasure for twice the price. It's not that outrageous of a difference. Especially when you consider how much some people forked out for Dr. Syn.

And think about how Disney was able to stretch out the Pluto cartoons into 2 sets when they could have fit nicely in a single set. Disney Treasures isn't made for penny pinching.

At least they are giving us all the Zorros instead of letting it dangle like the Swamp Fox series.

Price seems fine by me for the number of discs.

I hope people learned the lesson from Dr. Syn: "Limited Quantities" = buy it when released.  There is no guarantee it will still be available a few months (or even weeks) down the line. I never take those two words for granted and buy limited quantity releases on release day.

Disney has always announced the number of limited editions before the tins were released.
Not this time.
This time they haven't stated the print run for Zorro.

I would caution all fans to pre-order or buy on the day of the release because there's no guarantee Disney won't play cat and mouse with the inventory again.

Right now amazon has the lowest pre-order price with free shipping if you click on that option.

The Disney Movie Club is offering members a break on Walt Disney Treasures: Zorro volume 1 and volume 2.
If you buy one at $39.98, you get the other for $15.98 which is 60% off..
That's almost half of what amazon is charging with the free shipping.

The print run is a mere 30,000 copies so don't wait too long.

Pre-ordered months ago and shipped yesterday.  Phew!  And whatever the lowest price Amazon offered these for this entire time, that's what I'll be getting it for.
The Disney Movie Club deal is great, but unfortunately too late for me.  I've been pre-ordering these waves for the last few years now so mine is already on it's way from Amazon.
Too late is right.
I bought mine from amazon two months ago.
But if I had known about this low-priced offer from the Club ... you never know with Disney.
At first glance the monochrome restorations look clean and sharp.
In comparison, the colorized DVD's look like mud.
So the Treasures editions are a welcome upgrade and well worth buying.

In case anyone is interested, the Disney Movie Club has also issued the long-awaited Tonka (1958), Ten Who Dared (1960?), and a beautiful, widescreen anamorphic transfer of Scandalous John (1971) as Exclusives.
Excellent films, highly recommended, especially Tonka,

Now if only the DMC would step in with some Elfego Baca!

I keep hearing about this Disney club. Where do you get the info on the club?
http://disneymovieclub.go.com

It's basically a Columbia club, but Disney-centric.
Here is a link to the Disney Movie Club:

disneymovieclub.go.com/

Check out the FAQ and membership agreement links at upper right.

I joined to buy Exclusives, specifically the Zorro series, and out-of-print Walt Disney Treasures which were still available within the club, when I wanted to build a library of Disney classics. Availability changes as some titles are withdrawn and new titles added. It costs me nothing to stick with the club awhile longer, in case they decide to release more classics.

By the way, of the animated classics, Sleeping Beauty, the original 101 Dalmations and The Jungle Book (1967) are going out of print.
Bambi, Dumbo, Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella, The Lady Is a Tramp, and The Sword In the Stone are already out of print.

So looks like these have a run of only 30,000 each.  Wonder how long before the wailing and gnashing of teeth?

Amazon still has them in stock tonight and 5 of 6 local Best Buy's are showing as being available.

And really, as I said last year, the original announcement of these sets came back in May (that's when my Amazon pre-order e-mail is dated).  That's six months people have had to find the information and make their pre-orders.  If you didn't or waited until Christmas for some reason, I have no pity.  These sets do not last long on shelves and once they're gone, they're gone.

But yes, I'm waiting for it too.  Should happen sometime next week.

I ordered mine 2 days ago from Amazon and they just shipped today.
My review for the sets is up, but it's in the TV Shows and TV Movies forum.
I pre-ordered the Zorro sets from Amazon weeks ago. They shipped on 11/2 but still haven't arrived yet - Any receive there Zorro sets from Amazon yet?
Joe, I pre-ordered mine back in May and then showed up on Friday.  Did you get a shipping e-mail with a USPS tracking number?
Mine just showed up yesterday and I preordered about 3 weeks ago.
Thanks for the feedback. Jason, yes - Just says "In transit", Left Virginia 11/2 and no further activity since (I'm in NJ). I emailed Amazon, they just sent a standard general email reply.
Did you opt for free shipping? Just asking because my Zorro's were shipped under free shipping and got to me within 2 days. However, I have another order that was shipped free 10/30 from Delaware with a schedule arrival of 11/3 and I have yet to see them on 11/8. All the tracking shows is that it was picked up at the Delaware facility but proceeded no further.

It could be a media mail problem or that they are just lost. I think with media mall they are low priority and can get delayed sometimes. My reply from Amazon was to wait until 11/11 for that order before they will send out another.

Zorro DVDs arrived yesterday, they look like awesome sets. Can't wait to watch them this weekend.
I have enjoyed the Zorro Sets, they are very well done.  Will this be the last year that the Treasures sets will be released?
