We had a big debate at work today about these games in other countries. We have a guy that believes that these games are "tweaked" in other countries so that you are not killing the Germans or the Muslims. Several of us believe these games are only made one way and they do not make a complete new group for you to fight in other parts of the world. So in every game of CoD are the Japanese always the bad guys?

Well these kinds of games, first person shooters, aren't that popular in Japan, anyway. I doubt there are serious changes, but I doubt anyone's buying it to begin with. I think there have been articles online about this, which is why they sometimes change the symbols for various groups so that it doesn't look like you're playing online against the Japanese or the Nazis.

I'm not sure, but I don't think the Germans would care if they were killing Nazi's. I know a couple German born people and that would never bother them, they understand the Nazi's were the bad guy.

Watched the trailers for MW2. Looks like it will be a kick ass sequel. It looks much better than COD: World At War. Sometimes, though, I can't shake the eerie feeling that these games are telegraphing future events, especially when you look at the state of the world today. Games like this are basically signalling the fall of the American -and by extension Western- empire.

I would agree if it was a Tom Clancy game. I forget which one, but one of the TC games from a few years ago pretty accurately predicted the small war between Russia and Georgia from summer 2008. That said, I don't think of the CoD games with the same intellectual esteem. Sure, they're well done, but they're more like Michael Bay and less like Steven Spielberg when it comes to war movies.
