need help with speakers

 I am updating my surround sound and need some help. My old receiver died and I am thinking of getting the Yamaha rx-v765. I decided to go for a blue ray since I am upgrading. I liked the LG BD390. I have old  Polk speakers, 3 and 1 subwoofer, and my back speakers are Technics 110 watt. The room is a very open large floor plan open to the kitchen and has high ceilings. We have never been able to hear dialog very well. I want to change my 2 front speakers and the center one for better sound quality. I don't want to change the back speakers. Any ideas? I also don't want to spend a lot of money (of course everyone says that). Also, do I have to match the back with the front speakers?

Your Polks are probably just fine.  Not hearing dialog well is (usually) not a speaker problem, it is a speaker calibration problem.  The main exception is if the center speaker is damaged, like a blown tweeter.  Rather than spending money on new speakers, get a Radio Shack Sound Pressure Meter and a calibration DVD like Avia of Digital Video Essentials.  Also, most receivers these days have their own calibration program and microphone, but I personally prefer the meter/disc route.

I would follow the advise of the previous poster and replace your blown receiver with a new one and see how your existing speakers work after they are properly calibrated.   Perhaps that old receiver was causing a problem before it died on you.  If you still don't like the sound of the existing speakers then you may want to start looking for new speaker system.
