Onkyo HT-RC160

I just picked up the new Onkyo HT-RC160 on a sale I couldn't resist. I know it's not going to win any awards for sound quality, but for under $400 I don't think I could have done better. From what I've read, the new Onkyo series seems to be a 'casual' series of their 'serious' TX series.

Does anyone out there have the HT-RC160 or the HT-S7200 home theater system it's featured in?

And, before I open the box, am I right in my assumption that it's the best under $400 receiver on the block?

This was a new model to me. I hadn't heard of it before. But after looking at the features on it, at Onkyo's site, I say ............ you did good. Onkyo gives a lot of bang for the buck. So, for the money, I doubt you could have done any better.
What speakers are you hooking up to it? It's not rated for 4 ohms, so make sure the speakers are 8 ohms, and you'll be fine.

I'll tell you what I tell everyone that buys Onkyo........... don't close it in, in an entertainment center. Onkyo's amps and power supply tend to get kinda hot, if you close them in. Use a stand or rack, so it can breathe, and it should serve you well.

I was about to buy the HT-RC160 but bought the TX-SR607 when their price difference briefly diminished to a few dollars. I could not be more happy with it. There is little difference between the two - the HT-RC160 is just as "serious" a receiver as the other. The most important different feature for me was the addition of a front panel HDMI port on the more expensive one.

I don't think you can do better for the money.

It does get warm.
