Culver City, Calif. (September 21, 2009) – The revered black-masked bandit goes blu when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment releases the high-definition Blu-ray Disc™ of The Mask of Zorro on December 1, 2009 for an SRP of $24.95.   Expert action director Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) shepherds this incarnation of the Machiavellian marauder that stars Antonio Banderas (Evita, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown) and Academy Award® winners Catherine Zeta Jones (Academy Award® for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Chicago, 2002) and Anthony Hopkins (Academy Award® for Best Actor in a Leading Role, The Silence of the Lambs, 1991).   Additionally, this brand new Blu-ray will be available in a two-disc box set with the previously released Blu-ray™ Disc of The Legend of Zorro for an SRP of $49.95.

 

The slash and mark of Zorro’s notorious “Z” burns brighter and cuts deeper in high definition.   And those just meeting the Spanish swashbuckler will seamlessly swing through the past eight decades of Zorro lore by using the Blu-ray movieIQ function.   Additionally, fans enraptured with The Mask of Zorro will be satiated with Campbell’s director commentary, the “Unmasking Zorro” documentary, a behind-the-scenes look at the 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro, deleted scenes and a music video from the soundtrack. 

 

The Mask of Zorro Synopsis

Twenty years have passed since Don Diego de la Vega (Hopkins) stopped tyrannical officials from taking over colonial Spanish land as the legendary hero Zorro.  When a new tyrant plots to buy California and enslave the populous, De la Vega chooses bandit Alejandro Murietta (Banderas) as his successor and transforms him into a fearless fighter.  Armed with sword, whip, mask and the jet-black stallion, Tornado, the new Zorro must defeat the detractors and settle old scores of his own.

The Legend of Zorro Synopsis

The original caped crusader is back!  Having spent the last ten years fighting injustice and cruelty, Alejandro de la Vega (Banderas) is now facing his greatest challenge: his loving wife Elena (Zeta-Jones) has thrown him out of the house! Elena has filed for divorce and found comfort in the arms of Count Armand (Rufus Sewell), a dashing French aristocrat.  But Alejandro knows something she doesn't: Armand is the evil mastermind behind a terrorist plot to destroy the United States. And so, with his marriage and country's future at stake, it's up to Zorro to try and save two unions before it's too late.
