Help setting up my 5.1 system

Hello everyone,

What I really need help with is speaker placement. As you will see below, my room layout is a very difficult one for surround sound, but I know it can be done! What you dont see is the bottom 4 feet of the wall is actualy exposed beams and panels, its quite nice and very solid (built in 1921). I can mount the speakers anywhere in that paneling. I have the brackets for the speakers (omni mount AB2's)

Thanks Fellas!

This is a very difficult situation - it seems to be one compromise on top of another.

If you're restricted to positioning the speakers no higher than 48 inches off the floor, that would normally be OK for the fronts (you want the tweeters to be roughly at seated ear-level) but that's not the best place for the surrounds (they should be about a foot above the seated ear-level).

However, with your TV being ABOVE the fireplace, having the front speakers all placed a foot or two below the TV may result in odd imaging.  So, it seems the 48" placement restriction is unfortunate all the way around.

If you can mount the surrounds higher, tucking them into the corners on the right side of your room (pointing a bit into the center of the room) may be your only option.  Audyssey should be able to compensate for the asymmetry in their placement, but it's still not ideal.

Do you already own the speakers? If not, you may want to consider in-wall ceiling mounted speakers...especially for your surrounds.

I do already own the speakers (energy take classic). On either side of the fire place (which you cant see and I screwed up the drawing) there is roughly 2 feet of room to mount speakers! I can also mount one of the speakers where the chair is as its moving to the other side of the room near the hallway entrance.
