RF/IR help to conceal by STB behind wall

Hi - I have FIOS and the Motorola QIP 7100 set top box with an IR Remote Input at the back of the unit.  I need to conceal the STB behind a wall.  Has anyone done this?  What RF device/system do I need?  Or am I stuck with an IR set-up?  Any help appreciated!!!!
Thanks,
Philippe

There are dozens IR relay systems at Parts Express and Smart Home.  They just capture the IR signal, turn it into an electrical signal and they repeat it with an IR emitter somewhere at the end of the wire that you run.  Another option is a remote like the Harmony 890.  It is RF but has an RF to IR converter that comes with it.  If you have even a moderately complicated system, I would get one of these.  I use the IR only model 880.

I purchased a xantech system several years ago from homeautomationnet.com - it's been great. Unfortunately, they have gone out of business recently...but check their website link to ebay as they are selling out their remaining inventory. They have some xantech systems for sale under the ir control tab.
