I dont know much about sound setups, but I need something inexpesnsive, i dont care if its 2.1 or 5.1, and can connect to my laptop and my lcd tv so i can listen to either or when i want. I am a college student and i dont need any more electronics to carry around when i move from place to place commuting from home to school, so the less equipment the better. I have done a little research myself and found that maybe multimedia speakers may be the best, but how will i know if it will connect to my tv also? What do you guys suggest?

If your LCD TV has a 3.5mm jack for head phones you can connect it to a multimedia speaker system. I have two smaller TV's hooked up to to 2.1 and 5.1 PC speaker systems this way. This will also a provide you with a budget audio system for your other media sources. Keep your packing boxes and you can move it around from place to place with ease.
