You're speaking Greek to me :) And I've been scarred by 3rd Party Nintendo controllers from years ago, so I only buy 1st-Party controllers.

Also having wi-fi out of the box is nice for the Wii and PS3, whereas you have to buy a $100 dongle for the 360.
I installed an ethernet outlet in the living room to connect the Tivo and Xbox. But if I that hadn't been an easy option, that cost might have swayed me to the PS3.

Also, X-Box Live is $50 a year, I think.  This isn't that much as an annual fee, but keep in mind that the PS3 and Wii are free to play online, with the exception that some game companies can charge to play games (like MMOs) but that hasn't really happened.  I think you can check out the XBL Marketplace for free, but not play games online.
The $50 is solely for online gaming. Access to the updates, demos, movie trailers, etc. are free. If online gaming is important, the Xbox will quickly become more expensive than the others, and that's a real cost to consider. The consensus seemed to be that the 360 had the best online system, helping justify that cost, but maybe that's no longer the case (if it ever was).

The great thing is that all three consoles are now under $300. Never have such gaming features cost so little. Regardless of which system tickles your fancy, it's a good time to game!

The X-Box Live Marketplace used to be the best online system, but I think the PSN is better now for a couple reasons.  The WiiConnect service is also pretty good but a little behind the other two.  That said, it has a huge number of classic (and not-so-classic) NES, SNES, N64, etc. games on it.

And yes, this is a great time to be a gamer.  I think Nintendo wants to move to the next hardware generation within 2 years while MS and Sony want to delay that for their products for another 3-4 years.

Got Super Paper, SMGalaxy and Twilight Princess.  Let's rock!  Now, I just need the system or its followup!

Anyone else buy games for a system you don't yet own?  I asked in another forum and got a resounding HELL TO THE N-O.  I figure, why not buy games I want while they are available so I don't have to track them down later if they're not available in stores?  And, if I leave them sealed, I could probably sell them for a profit on eBay if I never end up getting the system (which is not likely).

"Let's Rock!"  By staring at the games on your shelf?

So, no, I've never even heard of buying games for a system you don't have (except for perhaps early Christmas shopping).

In my limited experience, games are easily available years after the console is replaced by its successor. (I can still buy Super Mario Sunshine. It's 7 years old and the Gamecube has been off the market for 2+ years.) And it's not a stretch that predict that these games will either remain in print for the Wii2 or will be available through their online market, as they're doing with the classic N games.

But we all have our unique finances and approaches to getting what we want in life. If this works for you, have at it! :)

Heh.  Yeah, that's just a to be funny.

I like new, not used, so it's not so easy to buy a game when it's gone.  Speaking of which, why are used DS games almost always listed "no box, no manuals, just the cartridge."  I can see that back in the days of cardboard Gameboy boxes, but why throw away the nice little keepcases?  I guess space is at a premium.

And, to be honest with you, I said "got" for a reason.  These were early Christmas presents ("I know about them, but they're not mine" kind of deal).  The plan was that my relatives would buy me a couple of games and I'd buy the Wii.  The only change there was that I don't want to buy the Wii now and find out a month later that the new HD version is coming out.

If there is a Wii HD, it won't be out until either next fall or (more likely) 2011.

I think buying used games was an issue years ago, but now it's not a bad idea.  Most used games (console ones, anyway) come with the cases and manuals and are guaranteed to work.  If it doesn't, you can exchange the disc for another used one (I had to do this with one of the games I bought this summer).

Regarding the DS games without manuals/cases, it's probably from little kids buying the little plastic cases that can hold like 100 games and sticking them all in those, dumping the cases/manuals, and then trading the games in down the road.  Or it could be shelf space.

Well, having all those games staring at me has made me decide to get a Wii right after Christmas.  If a new console comes out, so be it.  I'll have a year to enjoy the current machine, and I'm sure the new one will be substantially more expensive so I probably wouldn't buy it right away anyway.  Bottom line, there was a method to my madness.

In the meantime, I got Zack and Wiki in the mail and will probably buy a few more games between now and buying a Wii.  Don't you judge me!

Why not right now? :) The more time between purchase and new system, the better you'll feel.

Because I'm broke and need to spend the money on Christmas gifts.

I bought LostWinds and it's running in 4x3.  Reviews state that it can be displayed in 16x9.  My Wii is set to widescreen.  Do I have to have a component cable for widescreen mode to work?  Obviously, I want component, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet.  If it's the only way to get widescreen, I'll get it later today.

Also, I just encountered a website that said that GC games are a blank screen if you run in progressive scan.  He said you can cure it on some games by pressing B when the game starts to enable their progressive scan support.  True?  If so, I'll have to remember to change the settings to interlaced before launching non-progressive games, which seems like a nuisance.

Finally, is there any advantage to buying the Nintendo-branded cables?  Theirs are about $10 more than the generics.  I figure a component cable is a component cable, more or less, but you know you're getting quality with Nintendo.

So I got the component cable and it was still 4x3 even with Widescreen TV and 480P enabled.  So, I looked around and Nintendo says your set has to be no widescreen as well.  My Sony CRT is wide automatically, though it does have some 4x3 settings.  I tried setting it to Full and it seems to have worked.  A zero looked ovoid when on Normal and it looks like a zero on Full.  It seems like a half-assed way to do things, but I guess that's how it has to be.

Did you set the Wii to widescreen mode?

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't notice you had two consecutive posts.  Disregard.
Hey, no harm  I'm glad you were trying to help.  I think setting it to Full is fine.  I noticed that my HDMI input grays out Normal, which is the setting that was rendering in 4x3,  So, if I've been watching HD for years in Full, setting the component input to Full for Wii should be no different.  Plus, there is no loss of information on the Wii main screen, and the circles at the bottom left and right are circles--not ovals!

I do have to manually switch it for older games.  I was playing Super Mario 64 VC, and it was stretched and Mario was shorter and fatter!  Truth be told, the game didn't actually look too bad that way.  That's HTF heresy, however,

Also, I tried out a non-progressive GC game and it showed up like normal.  That article was either out of date or wrong.

Is there a problem with leaving Wiiconnect24 on?  I've read a few horror stories (most seem to be from 2007) about having your Wii in standby mode via Wiiconnect24 and having it overheat.  Mine's been "off" for about seven hours, and the left/top side is warm, but not to where you can't rest your hand on it.  I'm wondering if any of you have maybe had the system for a good while, leave Wiiconnect24 on, can feel it is warm hours later, but it has caused no problems whatsoever.  Or, should I just turn it off.  There's nothing I *need* it to be updating during the night, but I don't want to lose functionality if it's just a handful of weirdos.
I've had WiiConnect24 on since I got my Wii and never had a problem.
Is your system a little warm when not in use?  Mine was, but it seemed pretty mild.  I think I'll risk it so news and weather isn't busted.
I dunno, I guess it is.  It's in a relatively well ventilated area so it's not much of an issue.  The stand for my TV has 3 shelves that are open all around the sides and probably has about 10" between shelves, so I get enough air through it to not overheat.

Remember when I said I bought some games before I bought the Wii, for fear they'd go out of print?  Well, I guessed wrong in every case.  Even the original Trauma Center can be found.  It worked out, because I had a ton of games to choose from when I got the system.  But, the game I kept passing on?  Metroid Prime Trilogy?  Out of print.  I figured, hey, summer of 2009 release, no rush.  I had it in my hands two weeks ago at Fry's for $39, but passed.  Nintendo announced earlier this month that they were done with it, and I guess someone got the message, because they cleared Fry's out.  Fortunately, I found it at Wall Store today, but I had to pay an extra ten bucks.  Bottom line: if you've been wanting it, get it if you can find it.  The best guess is that Nintendo's going to put the first two out as New Play Control titles.  Even at reduced prices, three individual titles will run you more than a three-in-one.

Apparently they planned on it being a limited run product to begin with.  I doubt they'll reprint MP1 and 2 with New Play Control, they seem to be going kinda slow on those as it is.

Whew!  I was waiting since I had enough games to play, but happened to be in FYE a few weeks ago and they were blowing out almost all their video games for half price.  There wasn't much left, but I got MP Trilogy for $25 (actually $5 since I had the $20 gift card they sent me for trying out their frequent buyer program).
