Flash Forward - season 1 - Page 7

I always thought it was the priest that is drowning Nicole.

FlashForward: Season One Pt.1
For the record, Simon says he was "choking an unarmed man," after which he looked down and the dead body.  Of course, he could have been lying, as who wants to say "I was choking a weak candy-striper/baby-sitter" :)  However, I think it may have simply been an attempt at clever editing when they intercut between Simon and Nicole dreaming of her FF.

As an aside, I'm enjoying the show greatly, and finding it (along with V) to be a decent "spiritual successor" to LOST.  Of course, perhaps nothing can live up to that show in my eyes, as I am as big a LOST fan as they come on these boards, but I'm still really liking FF.

I guess the editing fooled me into thinking they were the same flash forward.   I forgot about what happened two episodes ago. Meanwhile, I was listening to an interview with Robert J. Sawyer from September  (http://www.sliceofscifi.com/2009/09/19/slice-of-scifi-231/).  He's the author of the original book.  He mentioned some differences between the book and the show.  I'll put these in spoiler quotes just in case someone doesn't want to see them.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
1. In the book you learn from page 1 what caused the flash forwards.
2. In the book, you get a glimpse 21 years into the future.  The show producers thought 6 months would translate better for a TV audience.
3. In the book, the main character is Lloyd Simcoe.
From the interview I got the feeling that reading the book won't spoil the show and vice versa.

I think he actually says he was choking "the one-armed man." Seems his flashforward was actually a flashback to the sixties.

Good episode. Unsurprisingly, there is a coterie of 3-starred men. Mark's actions and attitude aren't especially smart, but they're plausible given his mental state -- desperate to believe and act as if he can change his future.

has everyone given up on the show already? I thought this weeks episode was pretty emotionally gripping

I dropped out after last week's.

I thought last weeks show was another boring nothing happened show, but I've come this far.....

I keep thinking about cutting bait on this show.  After another episode in which the central mystery has absolutely no advancement I am that much closer; but I keep coming back.

(I can't even remember who sent the text message to the lady doc in a prior episode.  The show did reveal their identity, didn't it?  I can't remember.  Just sad. [shakes head] )

I'm in for the long haul.

It's not "absolutely" no advancement: they got the image of the the alpha on the guy's ring. It's virtually no advancement.

And no, the show has not revealed how lady doc got the text message.

"FlashForward"

ABC has pushed the Pause button on "Flash Forward."

The network has stopped production on the freshman drama series for this week.

The six-day hiatus had been built into the show's schedule, a rep for the network said.

"They want to maintain the high quality of the show, and this gives the writers the opportunity to do so," the rep said.

The hiatus comes on the heels of "Flash Forward" hitting a series low last Thursday.

Additionally, co-showrunner/executive producer Marc Guggenheim recently left the heavily serialized sci-fi series, with co-creator/exec producer David Goyer stepping in as sole showrunner.

"Flash Forward" is the second freshman series to go on a non-holiday hiatus in the past week. Comedy "Cougar Town" was shut down so star Courteney Cox can deal with personal issues.

I'm still watching, just been slowly catching up.  And I did like the last episode, focusing on Bryce and him trying to find Keiko. I'm enjoying seeing the characters and how they are trying to deal with their individual flash forwards. Kind of like a sci-fi version of Damages.

With production stopping, that is not a good sign.

Okay, virtually.

Thanks for the confirmation that the identity of the individual texting Olivia was not revealed.  I simply could not remember.

At least, it shows that they recognize that they have a problem and are attempting to fix it.

That's awesome, as I can't stand the guy, but he already did irreparable damage as far as I'm concerned.

I like this show a lot more than most here I think, but I did see another annoyance that bothered me in this episode.

He's told that his gun, the one with his serial number, kills Demetri... so how come after he gets arrested, he doesn't check to make sure it's the same gun that gets returned to him?  Just a hard to believe error by the character.

No new episodes until March?  With the FlashForward date being April 29, 2010 I thought we might synchronize with that date, but with us being left in December it seems like we won't hit that date until later in the season.

As far as checking the serial number on his gun, I think he had much more on his mind.   Still, I also thought that he should check it.

Nothing more than a guess but maybe it will sync up and they'll go beyond the date of the flashforward.

As for no new episodes until March, I think that's a huge mistake on ABC's part and a big nail in the coffin. With the show's ratings dropping nearly every week, they sure aren't going to go up by taking 3 months off so casual viewers can completely forget about the show.

That was a terrible episode.  Won't miss this show at all.

The series should go beyond the flash forward date.  There will be more to discover.  We've had 10 episodes.  It will resume the first week in March, which means that if it will sync up it will have 8 episodes to cover events from the rest of December, January, February, March, and April before the flash forward date and then the 9th will be the flash forward date.  Maybe they had already timed things that way and were going to take some other block of time off during these months or not. I really fear what the ratings will be when it returns.

On ABC.com's schedule they have a repeat of it listed for next week, but that might change.

Back to the story - I was surprised by Simon being shocked with his idea being used so many years ago in Somalia. That complicates matters.  Why the secrecy?

Would someone mind filling a spot I missed? I was working on the drawing board last night, so I half watching. But I was following the plot. The bit I'm not clear on is when Mark and Demetri are taken to the airport by the FBI guy (or is he CIA?), to go back to the USA. Mark hands his badge and gun to Demetri. Then he sort of whispers in to the ear of the FBI/CIA guy, "Now we both aren't part of the FBI."

I wasn't clear what that meant. Mark is no longer an FBI guy because he's been fired? And how does that apply to the FBI/CIA guy, I guess that meant he wasn't a FBI or CIA guy ever, just pretending to be?

Thanks.

As for the long hiatus. I gather the same concerns of the show loosing steam and interest could have been said about Lost when it was first announced it would not return till early the next year so they could show the season un-interrupted. But Lost has a far greater interest level. Far higher then Flash Forward and V it seems.

You are there almost.  Mark = fired, "In-country" agent = CIA

I am enjoying this show more than most apparently.  On thing that was bothersome though was that through most of all the other episodes, "Juliet" (Olivia) goes out of her way to avoid her future and now all of a sudden she's practically flirting with Lloyd Simcoe?  That part of the story was irritating....
Thanks!

Hmm, fired. Not good. But I suppose it's why he's drinking again in his flash forward. No job and maybe no more wife.

I think he'll get his job back! They all seem to be doing what they can to alter the future.

Just for reference, Olivia's LOST analogue is "Penny."  "Juliet" is on V :)

I'm a Lost watcher, but I always see her as Donna from 'Mind of the Married Man'.
Initial ratings for last night were a series low.  This trend may imply that we'll just get one season out of this.  At least I hope that ABC isn't going to postpone the return any further.
Well, it seems all the networks have been showing mostly repeats all week. Perhaps the low ratings are indicative of it still being a holiday from last week, so viewership will be down anyway. Which explains the repeats. Or it means the series is losing viewers.

You need to check her out on HBO's one season and out series "Tell Me You Love Me". The show itself was sometimes tedious to sit through but she does get undressed on a regular basis.
