Cronenberg remaking THE FLY again????

Apparently Cronenberg is remaking his 1986 remake of THE FLY. So where is this Modern Remake Epidemic Insanity going to end? Is there no shame? Is anything and everything fair game - even modernized remakes of modernized remakes?

And in this case, we had a 1986 remake which is generally considered one of the newer remakes THAT ACTUALLY WORKED! Many people prefer the '86 version to the '58 one! I mean, isn't the gory '86 film already "modern enough" for new audiences?

If this re-re-make is seriously to be, then I'd think even the most staunch supporter of remakes would have to say "oh, come on now".

If Cronenberg is actually involved, I'm interested. If he's not, I probably won't see it. I'm not going to get bent out of shape about it (or any remake) though.

I'd write more but thanks to the Elit ads, it took nearly 3 minutes just to write these 3 sentences.

Cronenberg is my favorite filmmaker, so I'll see anything that he does. I don't really see a need for this remake, but if it has to happen, better him than some hack. And at least it's more interesting than that haircut movie I read about him possibly doing a few months back. I've never disliked one of his films, but that just sounded bad.

he did direct the fly the opera from last year. it was a remake of the 86 movie. it was a bit differnt. he teamed up with howard shore for it. this new version could be interesting.

As Vincent Price said, the 1986 version of THE FLY was more like THE MUTANT than anything else.  Both versions are bland so bring it on.  It can't be any worse than CURSE OF THE FLY or THE FLY II.

Enjoy Cronenbergs slightly more than the original.  It did do well to show Goldblum pretty much altering and falling apart.  Cronenberg was a natural with the material, surprisingly realistic...saying that even though I thought it was a tad grosser than it needed to be.

It's a shame Price isn't around to do a cool cameo.
