Are the Elit ads slowing things down for anyone else? - Page 2

I saw them for a couple hours this afternoon but, as of now, everything is fine.

Thanks to all involved!

Everything's running great again. Thanks!
Nope, not slowing me down at all!  =)

Just checking in and HTF is running fine now.  Thanks, Adam.

Yep, the Elit ad is gone now.  Thanks!

*BUT* -- and somehow, I didn't think it would die for the last time on its first try  -- the annoying mouse-over pop/pan-out Montreal tourism ad is now back again.   Well, at least this one is less annoying (if that could be possible) than the resource hog Elit ad although the Elit ad was tolerable after a Flash software update.

Considering how these annoying flash ads tend to reappear at least once at some point, I'm guessing we probably haven't seen the last of the Elit ad just yet either...

This will sound redundant by now, but the forum is moving MUCH faster now.  Thanks for that Adam!

This could be coincidence, but since the great slow down I've had a strange problem; I'm not seeing certain threads in SD Movies - I only visit there and HD Movies (which seems fine), but I'm totally flummoxed as to what this could be. Yesterday, I didn't see any new posts for several hours in that forum. I replied to a thread, which didn't show despite others seeing it. This morning I see a few new posts, but still not the thread I commented in (and made a new comment just to be sure).

I've never seen anything so peculiar. Using IE Explorer 8, BTW. Viewing in Firefox appears to be okay. As I said, possibly a coincidence...

The Elit ads are slowing things down again. It's not as bad as before though.

Yah, I was gonna say -- and also alert Adam (Farren) of it.

If you've done a recent update of your Flash plug-in, then it should run smoother w/ less impact on your system (though I imagine really old computers w/ small RAM footprint will still see some serious slowdown).  For reference, it eats up ~40% of my work PC's cpu time running IE6 while it's animated, which is mostly during the first minute or so after page load in this case.  The slowdown here is not particularly noticeable (now), but it better not be for this machine -- it's a not-that-old, 2.67Ghz duo-core XP box w/ 2GB RAM that runs fine enough for general .NET development work among other things.

Anyhoo...  Guess it's time to let Adam know...

I'm not getting the elit ads thankfully, but I am getting a couple of excitable Samsung birds chasing me around the top of the forum. I've lost count at how many times I've accidentally opened the Samsung home page.

On the plus side it is a product I'm interested in, which makes a change,  but it can get annoying.

Just a heads up, the Elit ads are back and they're slowing things down again.

EDIT:  To clarify, it's not as bad as the first time but there's a definite slow down.

Uncle!  Whatever Elit is paying HTF, I'll glady pay 110% if you'll ditch the ads!

Ironically, the result of their ad campaign has left me with such an unpleasant association with Elit that I'll never choose their vodka again...

Well I've gone off buying Samsung products, I get attacked every time I visit.

Been gone for about three months.  Back today and that dang "elit" ad is wreaking havoc again.  Slowing everything down to a crawl.
whenever these ads are put up, it just locks out my browser for about 5 minutes, the fans on my computer kick to high gear and i can't do anything at all except force quit the browser .

it doesnt help that im a tab surfer, i'll command click links and get 5 to 10 tabs opening in the background and with that ad up, every page gets locked until each one loads

Stoli Elit ads are banned again - shouldn't be seeing them any more today (well, give it 20 minutes from the time of this post).

Sorry about the inconvenience here!  Our network assured us that Stoli had fixed the issue but obviously, they don't have very good engineers building their ads.

That was posted 12-18-09.  The Elit ads are back in full force again this morning (12-27-09)...slowing my HTF experience to an absolut(!) crawl.

This is ridiculous.  I cannot navigate the HTF with these ads running on every page I open.  There goes my quiet Sunday afternoon getting caught up on various HTF threads.

I'm really pissed.  I'll have to check back in sometime later.

Same here... again. And it's the really bad version of the ads where it takes forever for what you're typing to even show up.

EDIT: Just to get to the Feedback threads, type the above two sentences and add this edit, it probably took about 4 minutes.

I mean I understand that HTF isn't free and it relies on advertisers but I think it's pretty obvious that the Elit ads are causing problems.

I just don't get why they keep showing up.  Someone's dropping a ball somewhere.

Me neither. And they're weirdly selective. I don't have them yet, and I should, because I usually get them when other people do.

I've sent a PM to Adam F.

Thank you. That ad must be one of the most poorly designed ones that I have seen to date. I've never seen a slow down here as bad as this one is due to that Elit ad. I have had slow page refreshes but never a lag when typing out a post.

I'm getting them again too.  This is ridiculous.

Yes.  Thanks.

I'm back tonight and this was the first thread I came to...and there they were.  Bummer.

You could understand it if it was a malicious thing...that makes it all the more strange and aggravating.

Yep, running like a snail for me. Hate it. I really think it's time to look into something different to host / run this forum. This one has proven to be nothing but trouble.

As a Flash developer, it boggles my mind how some of these companies can screw up something as simple as a web ad.  I would LOVE to take a look at the source code behind these ads to see what could possibly be going on... we programmers always enjoy mocking inefficient and stupid code.
I have to agree, it's amazing how certain type of totally inexperienced people are allowed to call themselves "programmers" and are admitted to real work.

That is a terrible piece of advertisement. It won't do the company any good either.
The amount of slow-down on your PC caused by this piece of garbage, may also be influenced by the amount of central memory available (some have mentioned already that it seems to leak). Also, having a second tab open on IE 8 is a disadvantage.
I just switched to a big new Windows 7 machine and all seems well, but when I tested browsing the HTF on my "old XP" machine, it wasn't (yes, 88%-93% CPU time on IE).

This is a horrible thing for the HTF.

I can only imagine the new visitors that are getting turned off by their experience here because of these resource-hogging ads--kinda like this old hand is staying away until things get fixed...again..

Like yesterday, I just checked in to the HTF today to get caught up on things...and the ad caused me to wait and wait for a simple page to load.

Last night, it even caused my Windows Task Manager to crash (which I was trying to use to close my Firefox which had been rendered inoperable).
