Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films) - Page 30

I would be willing to consider downloading in some cases and looked into it.  The title that got me interested was the Hammer Dracula since the download version has the cropping issues addressed.  Since I'm moving towards a media server concept, the digital file is ultimately what I'm after.  However, on closer examination, it appears DRM is in full force and the download will only work on the rig that holds the license file.  Considering how many different computers and reformats I go through over the course of a few years, this struck me is being not much better than a long rental.  If they address the DRM nonsense, I'll be much more open to the idea.

I haven't downloaded, in part because I can't sell those purchases later if I choose, and because I've never found a price I'm willing to spend to do it.

I think downloading is much more popular with recent releases and blockbusters.  Much of the college crowd I'm with does it, if not illegally downloading it for free or renting.  Since these seem to be the titles studios bank most of their rental returns on, I assume this is what they are responding to

I'm one who prefers buying physical media, rather than downloading.

Dear Point-Blank,

What 40% off sale? I don't find it anywhere on Warner Archive. Lots I'd love to order

at that price ...

I also prefer to have the physical media.

I must be blind . I can't find 40% off or free shipping on the WB site .

It was an offer (now finished) made by email to those who subscribe to Warner's Archive newsletter. I received it.

I get the newsletter . Missed that one . Bummer .

I should have been more specific in my post. Yes, it came as an E mail a few days ago, but was only good for three days this past weekend.  I wasn't online until Sunday when I checked here to see if there were any other coupon codes that might be stacked with the 40% off (ever in search of an even greater deal, LOL). I was surprised no one in this thread had mentioned it.

It didn't work on the Value Packs, of course, but it did on mostly everything else, bringing the price of the titles at $19.95 to $11.97 plus free shipping. However the coupon stipulated only one order per household at that discount, though I don't think there was any limit as to how many items you could get per the single order.

As I am still not sold on the Archive concept, I ultimately decided not to order anything, but for those who are invested in the program, it was a relatively good deal compared to the original prices.

I think they send out the 40% off 3 day discount now and then to different e-mail addresses, particularly those e-mail addresses that haven't ordered from the Archive in a long time, to get you back in.

That sounds possible.  I am supposedly a subscriber to the newsletter, and this is the first I have heard of this now-expired 40% discount.  I did not receive such an email.

A repeat of my 8/3 request:

Will someone please post what the 'Remastered' Yellowstone Kelly aspect ratio actually is. WBShop.com says WIDESCREEN in one place and Screen Aspect: 16 X 9 FULL FRAME in another. Most confusing!  And is it really better than what TCM (or anyone) has shown 4X3?

It is widescreen anamorphic.  I watched it last night.  The transfer is good but the colors just do not pop out like I thought they would, and this is the best performance by Clint Walker.  And yeah it is signed.

I really would love to see them add more Value Paks. Remember when they released 5 new Joan Crawford films and had the Value Pak up the same day? I'd love to see more of that. They've missed so many opportunities lately for doing this; Bette Davis, Lana Turner, Joe E. Brown, William Haines, now Kay Francis. I would have bought all these films in Value Paks right away. Now, individually, I won't get any of them at all.

The Value Paks are the most consumer friendly part of the Warner Archive. I hope they don't forget about them or phase them out. I wouldn't mind them doing different paks every month or every other month, or have them in rotation; have Paks up with different films for only a limited amount of time; etc.

When they cut back the value paks fron 12 to 6 i thought they may be adding new paks . But nooooooooooooooo . Still six paks and no new ones .

Lou Lumenick from the NY Post shed more light on the Archive remastered print of None But the Lonely Heart:

It's been remastered from a newly struck fine grain print via the original nitrate camera negative. The previous video master was from a fourth-generation release print.

WB archive is finally having a decent sale . Any 3 single discs for $39 with free shipping . I got Five Star Final,Background to Danger and Yellowstone Kelly . Not Bad .

I think multi disc sets are 20% off .

Just checked and it's 25% off multi disc sets .

I don't know. Each disc is $13 in this sale. Remember when they did sales where each disc was $11 or $10? Those were sales. I'd rather see more value paks.

It's like they're doing everything they can not to offer the discs at $10 each. For me, $10 is a more fitting price given the quality of what they're selling.

I agree . I would perfer $10 each . But for what they're charging for the remasters . $13 is almost 50% off . So i bit . Now if they were $10 each , i would buy alot more .

The Archive is priced with the mentality of "one person, one disc," as if each person is only going to buy one movie. With this being the real world, I could kind of see how they'd feel $10 for one disc to one person is a little too low to get the whole Archive machinery rolling.

But if a person is getting 5-10 of them at a time, I don't see why they couldn't offer a discount, 5 for $50 or 10 for $100, especially if their stance is that they're doing this for the classic movie fan to get these movies out there, movies that couldn't be released in any other way. $10 each in bulk is a fair price, closer to what the quality of these discs actually dictate. They have done these sales before, but not since March. This is also the philosophy behind their Value Paks.

So, to the Archive: please introduce a permanent bulk discount where the discs come out to $10 each.  Classic movie fans would be buying more discs, more often, and would have a better feeling in general toward this program.

jdee28 has my vote re bulk-order pricing, but I'm also with borisfw today; the sale worked for me on the 'remasters'--Background to Danger (DVD, Remastered)$13.00,Yellowstone Kelly (DVD, Remastered)$13.00&None But The Lonely Heart (DVD, Remastered)
$13.00

As Far as the pricing per disc . Almost every order i've made with the archive ,my price per disc has been $10 or under .

But recently they have cut that out . Can't find any discount codes and the value paks have stayed status quo for awhile .

The only new value pak has been the Caan one. Which i would buy if i already hadn't bought Countdown when it was discounted long ago .

But i still check for new value paks all the time . maybe they will add some new ones soon .

I haven't used it yet, but if it is the same format for month's past August should be  XB810.

Last time I used it was March, and XB310 worked.

Then sit on the sideline while the rest of us that bought them at $13 enjoy these discs.  I ordered nine of them today.

Am I wrong, or are there exactly six Warner Archive titles of the specialty $25 remastered titles available?  If so, this is a great opportunity to get all of them at 50% off.
