Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films) - Page 10

I tried to order 10, but it did not go through at the 99.95 so I cancelled the order.

Plus shipping is free on all Archive orders.

The sale ends on November 30.

BTW - you get the $14.95 price as you put titles in your cart.  When you reach ten titles the prices change to $10 each.  HOWEVER, if you sign into an Insider Rewards account all the prices revert to $14.95, even though you have 10 in the cart.  The rewards discount overrides the sale pricing.

My solution - I cleared my browser of any WB cookies, put ten titles in my cart, and then during checkout I registered using a different email address.  A bit annoying, I know,  but the order went through @ $99.95!

I guess this is why my did not go through at the price as I said above.  But this is way to much trouble so no sale here.

I might have got lucky earlier...I tried to do it again a little while ago (even though I wasn't going to order) and it didn't take off the extra money for 10.

You can always place the order and call customer service and they will credit you the extra money you paid for 10.

Well, the price point is pretty good, so I ordered four titles (having previously ordered 6 titles between March and July).  My order seems to have gone through at the $14.95 price point per title, as promised.  I've had other difficulties with the Archives before, so just because my order has been "accepted" and charged doesn't mean that I will actually receive my discs in a timely fashion.  We'll see.

At least this time (unlike the last time I attempted to order from them), my order went through on the first attempt.  That was a pleasant surprise.  The last time, my order was rejected in whole (even though I am a customer of record, as per my above notation).

This time, I ordered:

TERM OF TRIAL
DEALING
FROM HELL IT CAME
CARNY

I've heard that sales of FROM HELL IT CAME have been pretty good, so I still don't understand why the Archives hasn't released any other horror/sci-fi films from the Allied Artists library.  There's more to life than Marie Dressler!

Again, too much trouble to get an advertised special.  Why can't they get the ordering right, without having to delete cookies, re-register under a different email or call customer service.  While the price point is very tempting, the trouble to get is frustrating, almost like they don't want you to get the special. Ahhhh, maybe that is the answer.

Thank you for mentioning this coupon, I used it when I placed a 10 for $99.95 order too.

It appears that THE BOY WITH GREEN HAIR and THE NEXT VOICE YOU HERE are part of today's new releases, but except for a banner at the top, nothing new is for sale yet.  Looking forward to seeing what the rest of the films are.  Both these titles have been on my radar for years since seeing them on the late show back in the 60's.  I have not seen them since, but these two films have stayed in my memory.

It's good to see Warner cough up a couple of light fantasies, but I still want more vintage horror/sci-fi/mystery thrillers.

I just checked in on the Warner Brothers Archive web-site, and when I clicked ALL DVDS - A TO A only 86 titles came up. Has anyone else had this experience. Are they slashing their availability list? Very strange ...

If you click on the sort from Z to A all 380 something show up.  They are updating the new releases today, so as usual there are glitches all over the site.

Now why they wouldn't package those early talkies into a Dawn of Sound collection like they did on laser disc is beyond me.

Im very excited for these early talkies. Im curious about the inclusion of the Constance Bennett film The Easiest Way (1931). It really doesnt tie into any of the "theme" packages.

Here's a few more that turned up with a trial-and-error search of cover art URL numbers close to those of the new ones listed above. Years are from the tcm.com database:

Journey for Margaret (1942)
Show of Shows, The (1929)

Movies Unlimited/TCM added October titles to be released in December and it seems that they are not going to carry any of the multi-disc sets - short collections (Dogville, Joe McDoakes, Robert Benchley), 2-disc TV movies (Deliberate Stranger, Jack the Ripper, Nutcracker: Money, Madness & Murder, Two Mrs. Grenvilles) or Eleventh Hour Complete Series.  I wonder if it's only their decision or these sets will stay exclusive to Warner Archives website.

Nice batch.  Happy to see Boy with Green Hair, Canterville Ghost, Hollywood Revue of 1929, The Happy Years, The Next Voice You Hear and Sally (1929) on the list.  Now, for a sale like the one I missed last weekend.

Yes, a sale on those early musicals would be most welcome, and I'm going to wait for one (like I waited for the Jolson films and got rewarded). Keeping my fingers crossed for that.

Hope not, there are still plenty of titles left that would fit into another volume.

Btw. three more titles were added:

  • Dondi
  • Hard, Fast and Beautiful
  • Journey for Margaret

I haven't seen it mentioned that this was Clark Gable's 2nd film and first MGM film. In less than a year he would be a star.

I just noticed that ten of the WB Archive multi-disc sets are now on sale for 25% off.

Anyone know of a date for The DEADLY TOWER with Kurt Russell? saw it on the upcoming releases, but haven't seen it since and most of those titles have come out.
The Deadly Tower has been added today... Along with The Show of Shows, So Long Letty, The Strange Love of Molly Louvain, They Learned About Women and a couple of motion comics.

What are "motion comics"?

 God Bless George Feltenstein.

This latest batch of early sound musical releases are a Film/Musical lover's dream come true.

Although I have several of these movies on Laserdisc, there are some titles here that I never dreamed would ever become available.
The wonderful Duncan Sisters in " It's a Great Life " which I thought was lost, Wheeler & Woolsey's " Rio Rita " and the gorgeous Alice White in "Showgirl in Hollywood"  are just 3 of the exciting titles that I must get ASAP.

But, where to buy for somebody outside the USA becomes the big issue.
Amazon, Deep Discount and TCM only carry a portion of Warner Archive titles and certainly the chances of this latest batch seems rather slim at this time.

The good news is that I can purchase those above titles from online auctions, but at what costs?
$39 ea plus freight on e-bay or even an unbelievably greedy $60 ea plus freight from various Amazon Sub dealers.

Please, is there any news on Warner's getting their act together and start supplying International collectors?
We are desperate!!!

George, please make it happen.

PS. ThomasT
"30% off all Musicals at Warner Archives..."
You certainly know how to make a grown-up guy cry real tears.

It's sad to see these early sound musicals end up in the Archive. It just means that no effort has been given to their restoration and that we're going to be stuck with the same creaky 20 year old vhs-era transfers for yet another generation.
