Warner Archive Discussion Thread (The Announcements/The Films) - Page 37

Thanks Bob and Matt! I just called them up and the replacement is on the way!

Just a short update on my Doc Savage purchase, confirming it has new case artwork, as well as new disc art in line with newer releases.

I find WB Archive a breath of fresh air compared to my initial dealings with Directtu.com (on behalf of Sony Columbia classics.)

Firstly they have a phone number so you can speak to a human being who can resolve your issues  and secondly no issues with the website andordering.

As for directtyou they are very slow to reply especially when they have debited my card by $550 and not sent me any acknowledgement and querying on the automated facility with my visa card.

On a separate matter are critics choice part of Deep Discount?

I believe they are.

I preordered three of the Columbia MOD titles from Critics Choice and received them much faster than expected, in only about four days or so after they shipped. Meanwhile, a friend of mine ordered four Columbia MOD titles from Deep Discount at the same time I placed my order.  More than a week after I received my CC order, his DD order remains unfilled.  Meanwhile, Movies Unlimited lists a street date of October 15 for these Sony/Columbia MOD discs.

I got a small but unexpected bonus from Warner Archives which others may want to try. I placed a few titles in my shopping cart and added the SCIFI25 code and then logged off without purchasing. A day or two later they sent me an e-mail saying "we see you left items in your cart" and gave me a one-time coupon code for an additional $5 off.

No worries; I was surprised that A STOLEN LIFE wasn't out on DVD, either. Would have made a nice "double feature" with DEAD RINGER.

That's funny for when WA announced it, I was surprised they were releasing a title that they had already released as a pressed disc.  Further investigation. proved I was wrong on it being released previously.  I am glad to know there more like me out there and I am not the only person that made that mistake.  Now the question, is why so many of us thought it had been released in the past?

I have to confess with a degree of disappointment about the impending release of A Stolen Life in the Archive. I had hopes Warners was planning a final Davis box with some of her missing titles, and since A Stolen Life was one of her biggest hits and a tour de force performance, I had just assumed it would be one of the set (which would also include The Corn Is Green and Dangerous).

I realized that with Columbia Classics release of Storm Center, Olive's release of Where Love Has Gone and the three Warner Archive titles next week, that Miss Davis is one of, if not the best represented actors on DVD.  I do agree with Matt, that I would have enjoyed another press set of Davis films that also included A Catered Affair and The Cabin In The Cotton along with his suggestions.

I think I know why I thought it had been released on DVD --because it was available on Laserdisc and I had the box set that included it.

With the WAR OF THE PLANETS and THE WILD, WILD PLANET coming out, I recall, that there was supposed to be some connection between these movies, so I went in search of info on it I learned, whoch is probably old news to some of you, that there are four Italian made science fiction movies (THE WILD, WILD PLANET, WAR OF THE PLANETS, WAR BETWEEN THE PLANETS and SNOW DEVILS) that are commonly referred to as the Gamma I Quadrilogy. I rememver WAR OF THE PLANETS, but I recently watched the trailers for the other two and I recall seeing them when I was a kid. The SNOW DEVILS gets run on TCM once every blue moon and I would love to see that one on DVD, too.

Nope, doesn't look like Bette Davis will warrant any more pressed disc sets. Hopefully they'll at least give her a value pak at some point. They have one up for Joan Crawford.

My only complaint with Warner Archives, barring the prices, is that you can't get a real good look at their DVD covers. I found that one there on Classic Film Horror Board. Especially for blogging purposes, I'd love to get all the Warner Archives, and Sony's cover art that large, too. Did ya know THE GREEN SLIME is going for a record $24.95?! That pretty much guarantees it's gonna stay on my wish list for some time.

For the last three or so months the remastered titles have all gone for $24.95.  There are a little over a dozen titles at that price point.  You have to keep watching for sales.  You might be able to use the SCIFI25 and get it down to $19.

If I remember right, Luciana Palucci (sp?) starred in Green Slime, so I assumed that is supposed to be her on the cover.  She was the attractive Italian redhead who was the Bond (Bad) Girl in Thunderball.

I might have a little extra dough coming my way either in November or December, any potential order won't happen until then, and I haven't decided on whether it's going to be THE GREEN SLIME or NIGHTWING. How long is that SCIFI25 coupon good for?

NIGHTWING is Columbia's MOD.

I used SCIFI25 once with the Archive and it worked fine; a second time, not at all.

I'm aware NIGHTWING is Sony's, I was just stating that I'm not sure which one I intend to buy, Sony's flick or Warner's, and is that coupon good 'till the end of the year? I'm kind of leaning towards NIGHTWING, at the moment, and that's only because I haven't seen it since childhood. I just saw THE GREEN SLIME this summer on TCM.

It will work a second time if you don't log in and use a different e-mail address when ordering.

I have been waiting for Green Slime so long this it might be one of the full purchase price WA's I get, along with Pretty Maids In A RowWar Of The Planets and Wild Wild Planet can wait.

Yeah, this is being a close one for me, now that I think about. Currently, NIGHTWING is in the lead, but whose to say later this year THE GREEN SLIME won't come out of nowhere and pull off an insane win. And, now with those other two scifiers you mentioned, I can finally acquire a good majoriry of the GAMMA I films. Now, all Warner has to do is release the SNOW DEVILS.

Yah but i don't recall seeing her in such a tight sexy outfit with long legs and breasts that hit you in the face.
