I wondered the very same thing.  I figured it was either makeup, or they maybe came up with the running gag after seeing him.

At the first episode, I thought maybe Chevy would be the boat anchor on this show, but he's come around.  "She a GDB!"  I was a fan in the '80s, but not so much afterwards.  But, I think that's a pretty common reaction to Chevy.  Once he got the talk show, he was pretty much over until now.

I'm not offended, but I do find Allyson to be kind of "nerdy hot."  She was never one of my favorites, though.  And, I've got nothing against Allison's looks, but I think her nerdy neurosis kind of erases her sexiness on this show.  I still need to see her on Mad Men.

Okay, I'll admit up front that I'll focus on some weird things... That being said, I am always fascinated when they put movie posters on a set, particularly because they usually pick stuff with no actors' likenesses to avoid clearance issues. In this week's "Community," in Abed's dorm room I noticed the great "Back to the Future Part II" teaser (just the car), "Short Circuit 2" (just the robot) and most amusingly the misbegotten Jeff Goldblum/Cyndi Lauper vehicle "Vibes" (just the title). Sneakily, they showed a "Back to the Future" one-sheet on the back of the door, but only the title was visible, cropping out Michael J. Fox. In every other shot, the door was open so you couldn't see the poster. There were two posters I could not figure out what they were, however. One was above the bunk beds, where they showed only the bottom, and it had a huge credit block in grey on black. The other was right above the couch that had a lot of stuff on it. I actually saw people on that one, so I wondered if it might have been made up by the show staff. The other clue to what they might be is that only posters from the show's co-producing studios (Sony and Universal) are represented.

Only when the story calls for it.

Actually, it's the new trend.

^ Huh, you learn something new every day. I would have bet that there wasn't a community college in the entire country that had dorms.

I guess imdb doesn't allow hot-linking to images.

Here's link to the imdb site.

"Stand By Me" and "batteries not included' were above the couch, but the one you mentioned was "It Came from Beneath the Sea."

I only see "Vibes" above the bed.  When Abed jumps in, that appears to be the only one present.  When Britta speaks to Jeff later, the bottom of the same poster can be seen to her right.

By the way, they didn't crop out Michael J. Fox.  I'm looking at a freeze frame right now and he's right there, looking at his watch.

Even after reading Greg's post referring to Mad Men, I had no idea that she plays Trudy Campbell (Pete's wife) on Mad Man. Hearing her voice on Community, she sounded familiar but it never registered with me that it was the same actor.

I guess I tricked myself into thinking they didn't show Michael J. Fox. Interesting that they did, considering the rest of the posters fit within the idea of not showing likenesses.

"It Came From Beneath the Sea" is an interesting poster but not a movie I was familiar with. It seems out of place with all the other posters being from the 80s. And a "duh" moment on the "Vibes" poster. I should have realized the poster with all the credits on the bottom was that one. Side note: I also find it amusing that someone has decided to label "Vibes" a "huge critical and commercial success" on Wikipedia.

I actually saw Vibes at the movie theater.  I don't even remember anything about the movie anymore except that it was really terrible.

The Human Being!  Seeing him with pom-poms was a riot.

"Will I accidentally listen to 'Come Sail Away' by Styx?"

Annie was looking good sexed up.  *Pat pat* I liked Britta's expressions when pretending to be under hypnosis--the popeye!

"Nice shot, Bruce!"

Yup.  That's it.  After this most recent episode it is now my favorite comedy show on TV.  I have laughed more with this show than I have any other sitcom in a very long time.

The Human Being mascot with pom-poms was hilarious!  And the wheelchair guy making his final (slow-mo) rebuttal had me on the floor.

"Hereeeeeeee's brownies!"  It took me several beats before I got that.

I also finally got that Britta is the straight woman in this nuthouse.  When Annie started doing the Handsome Hobo train and Britta was looking like, "WTF?" I was rolling.

The Irish jig Somewhere Out There topped anything on Glee (which I say out of total ignorance, never having seen that show ).

"I hope this doesn't awaken something in me. . . ."

The "Somewhere Out There" musical montage was great.

"It's peppery water!!"

Loved the whole musical montage bit, cross-cutting all the stories. Bravo!

I'm also assuming "cherry daquiri" was an inside joke - it was Gillian Jacobs' "stripper name" in "Choke."

I think that and last week's line about "pleasuring yourself to the E channel" are improved lines.  I read an article about the show before it aired, and Joel McHale was teasing one of the cast members about stealing their improved line.  I wonder how much of it is in fact improved -- some of the Pierce stuff sounds like pure Chevy.

BTW how many people read Derek's post, read the phrase, "Gillian Jacobs' "stripper name" in 'Choke'.", and took a quick trip to Bockbuster?  Greg?  Anyone?

I've seen the screencaps and they were quite nice (do I mean the screencaps or. . . ?).  I'm not a Palahniuk fan and the premise of "Choke" seems pretty stupid to me.  Somebody saves you from choking and then they have to start paying you regularly?  Huh?  Maybe I'm missing something.

I'm sure clips from the strip club scenes are somewhere out there (see what I did?).

Strangely enough, I find Chevy Chase the weak link in most of the episodes, even though I like him in general.

As for Choke, I haven't seen the movie, and haven't read the book in a while, but as I recall it's not so much the money, but it's more about the connection he feels to people when they save his life.

The angle on the choking to elicit sympathy from people (which brings the money) is only a minor part of the film version (never read the book), but it connects with the larger theme, along the lines of what Joe said above. The main plot is a bit of farce between Sam Rockwell and Kelly MacDonald concerning who the main character's real father is. The whole is a bit sloppy, but it has a couple of great scenes, my favorite being a conversation between Rockwell and Gillian Jacobs.

Good episode tonight. Anthony Michael Hall was pretty funny as the meathead bully. I liked that Troy and Annie were too young to know who Billy Joel is.

I'm guessing that since they've run 12 episodes of this show already that it won't be back until March/after the Olympics. I would assume the same for Parks And Recreation as well.
This is the first show since Arrested Development or the UK The Office (and I guess HBO's Extras) where I actually laugh all the way out loud.
That was a great episode.  I'd rank it right along side the Halloween one if not just a tad funnier.  I was laughing through almost the entire episode.

Some great quotables in this one:

"Agnostic.  The lazy man's Atheist." LOL!
"Jew".  "Say the whole word!"
"Give him the Forest Whitaker eye".

Oh, and Shirley's politically correct version of Silent Night was perfect.

Politically Correct "Silent Night" (as sung by Shirley)
Sensible night, appropriate night
Snow on ground, left and right
Round yon purchase of decorative things
Tolerant rewrite of carols to sing
Function with relative ease,
Function with relative ease.

What a fantastic show!

That line cracked me up too. I liked that Pierce is apparently in a cult but thinks he's a Buddhist.

A Buddhist that carries around a Buddha statue in bong form.

I didn't like the one before the break, but this one was back on track.  Loved the "Getting rid of Britta" callback.
