Center Channel Suggestions Wanted - $200

I would like to upgrade my center channel to as high quality as possible for around $200.

I would like any and all suggestions and/or experiences you may have.

Thank you!

What are you currently using for your front Left/Right speakers?  Really, you should get the center channel speaker that is designed to go with your mains - i.e. from the same manufacturer and the same speaker line.

For home theater doing this (called timbre matching) is extremely important as you want all three front speakers to have the same tonal characteristics so that panning sounds (very common in HT) sound consistent across all three speakers.

Thanks for the reply!

I'm currently using the speakers that came with my Onkyo HT-7100 system.
I've heard that the center channel, where all the voice comes from is the most important speaker you can have.
I would like to start there and work my way around.

It is but timbre matching is extremely important as well.  Save up and replace your front 3 at the same time.

Robert,

I'm in the process of upgrading my first surround sound system (energy take classic), what 3 front speakers would you recommend? My budget is $600 and its a medium size room. Sorry to hijack.

What sounds good to me may not sound good to you.  Everyone hears differently.  Audition as many different speakers as possible.  If you don't have a chance to audition speakers (time, geography, etc) then get some from a reputable internet direct dealer that has a good return policy.  Elemental Designs, SVS, Fluance, Axiom, etc have all be recommended recently.
