Help on New home theater setup

Thread Starter
Hello,

I am newbie to this forum, I am planning to setup a home theater in my game room and any help is really appreciated.

some infomration regarding the home theater room.

Room dimensions

Length of the Room - 15ft, from seating position it will be 12ft.
Width of the Room - 13ft

Room height is different on sides.

The place were I am planning to hang the screen is going to be 9.5ft and opposite side where the projector is going to be placed its going to be 8ft in height.

Now the other problem is one side of the room is open to downstairs where you have railing and entrance into the room.

I don't think it’s possible to watch any thing during day time since its not totally light controlled room, but my main purpose of this Home Theater is going to be for watching movies during night time.

Here are my questions.

1) I am looking for electric screen either wall or ceiling mounted, Any suggestions for screens ?
2) The distance between screen and projector is going to be anywhere between 13 to 14ft asumming i am going to loose 1 to 2 ft for installing screen and projector and i am thinking of placing the projector behind the seating position will that cause any issues.
3) With 13 to 14ft thorw distance does 110-120inch Diagonal Size screen will work? Or is it too big  with seating position of 12ft
4) I did some reading on few sites based on that i am thiking of going with to purchase PT-AE3000U projector. Is this right one???

Please advice

Thanks in advance.

1.  Use a fixed screen if at all possible.  You will never have a perfectly flat viewing surface when you pull down your screen.
2.  My projector has been behind the seating for years without issue.
3.  I sit about 12.5 feet from my 103" screen.  I used a seating distance calculator site (don't remember the URL though) to figure this one out.  It takes into account your viewing angle.  Anything larger and my eyes would have been constantly in motion to see all of the screen.
4.  I have the AE900U.  Great projector even now.  I haven't even looked at the new ones because I would get upgraditus quickly.  I'm more than happy with my choice.

Isn't the optimum viewing distance for a projection screen generally accepted as between 1.5 and  2.0 times the width of the screen?  I think I read that somewhere...

And rkappoda, I actually like sitting even closer to the screen - my front row seating is at 9' for a 120" diagonal screen, so I am basically at a 1:1 distance rather than 1.5:1, and I love the resulting "apparent" image size... I've had many guests coming to Monthly Movie Nights who have sat in the front row, and none of them have ever mentioned to me about feeling like they were too close to the screen...

I used a calculator like this - http://www.projectorscreenstore.com/viewing-distance-calculator.html to find the 30 degree viewing distance.  I could be off on my setup since I haven't tweaked it in 3 years.  But I'm about 12.5 to 13' feet which gives me very close to the 30 degree angle.  It works perfectly for me.
