The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, Circuit City is still out of business...even in Hawaii (where they NEVER guaranteed their prices anyway).

The Specials

--There are the usual price discrepancies, this week, between the Best Buy flyer and bestbuy.com on a number of new release titles.  So, if you are thinking of picking up a title at your local store, you MAY want to consider doing a purchase on BB.com and an in-store pickup.

--And, "available ONLY at Best Buy" is a $32.99 title called "Marvel Animation 6 Film Set."  It has no other information.  i can tell you the cover features illustrations of Capt. America, The Hulk, Iron Man and three others I should know...but I was raised on DC comics.

--Best Buy also has bonus content and offers from Jamster for X-Men Origins: Wolverine.  Text Snikt to 75555.  Standard text messaging rates apply.  Code good in-store only.  Expires 10-1-09.

Speaking of terrific TV set prices at Target, it looks like they have switched up the selection of 2-pack sets.  I saw S1&2 of I Love Lucy for just $19.99 yesterday.

I wanna check out the Wolfman (1941) SE to check out the extras before double-dipping...

And, a little OT, but I never understood all the love that was shown for Marvel comics (and still is) while DC always seemed like it was "2nd Class"!

Mike,

The "Marvel Animation 6 Film Set" should include the six Marvel animated films: Ultimate Avengers 1 and 2, Doctor Strange, Invincible Iron Man,Next Avengers, Hulk Vs.

Like last week's Freddy vs. Jason, I'll be getting Deep Impact at some point. It's the (much) better of the two asteroid films and a fave of mine.  But I'd never get to watch it with all the other stuff I have in the queue.  And it's just a matter of where on the two animated X-Men titles for me....

I am curious why Amazon does not have the single disc release of Casablanca available for ordering. They must still be trying to get rid of a stock of the Box 'o Junk Edition. I ordered the title from Deep Discount for $20.75.

I heard that Walmart has an exclusive 3 disk blu-ray of X-Men Origins: Wolverine – 2009 (blu-ray - disk, dvd, digital copy)

Nothing for me this week. I may pick up the new It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia as a gift for a friend though.

Thanks for the prices, guys!

Thanks guys. Nothing for me this week. That Marvel title at BB got me thinking, Mike. I wonder if the long-ago announced (after the release of the "Spider-Man '66" set) but ultimately shelved "Marvel Super-Heroes" animated TV show collection may now see the light of day. IIRC, there was a rights issue between Disney and Marvel about who owned what. I'm guessing that is now a moot point...

Mike, in addition to the John Carpenter Collection you've listed, there should also be a Wes Craven Collection on 9/15/09. I don't know whether anyone here is working on a review, but it consists of The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs and Shocker.

I posted a review of the John Carpenter Collection yesterday. The Amazon price is a good deal, but chances are that Carpenter fans will already own one of the four films (The Thing). The collection is worth it for the two that have been out of print for a while and are presented in new transfers (They Live and Prince of Darkness). The fourth film is Village of the Damned.

Pick it up for yourself. If you haven't seen it already, you won't regret it.

The first DVD set is in my Blind Buy hall of fame.

I can whole heartedly recommend the first season of Sanctuary.  I blew through all 13 episodes in the last three days and it's a trippy, amazing, entertaining and surprising show.  My only regret is it's not on Blu-ray.

Blu-ray - X-Men Origins: Wolverine, An American Werewolf In London, Army Of Darkness, Van Helsing, Deep Impact

DVD - Phantasm II

Those will be my picks for the week...Wolverine and AAWIL will be my immediate buys...the others I will pick up eventually.

Things are starting to pick up, huh?

You know what I forgot to do?  List the individual titles in each of the box sets this week.  Here they are:

Essential Art House 4 (CC) (DVD):  Gervaise, The 39 Steps, Le Jour Se Leve, Mayerling, The Tales of Hoffmann, Throne of Blood.

John Carpenter Collection (DVD):  The Thing, Prince of Darkness, They Live, Village of the Damned.

Wes Craven Collection (DVD):  The Serpent and the Rainbow, The People Under the Stairs, Shocker.

Hannibal Lecter Anthology (Blu-ray):  Manhunter, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal.

Thanks to everyone above for all your added info and help this week.  I've added the Craven Collection to the price grid in the OP (Thanks, Michael!).

That really made no sense to me at all.  The lack of the title on amazon made me wonder if it had been pushed back or something.

Yeah, was wondering the same.  And nice heads up on the DDD price.  Probably gonna head over there and order it then.

For those who can't wait (for free shipping from DDD) and happen to be in downtown Manhattan, J&R is listing $22.99 for it.  If I didn't already have a sizeable stash of BDs (and some DVDs) to catch up on, I'd probably run out and just pick it up from J&R instead.

Like that's ever stopped you before.

Why do I suspect there'll be a post here in a day or so that says, 'Well, I happened to be in a J&R today and since I hadn't placed the order at DDD, I decided to pick up a copy!"?

Hehheh...  You know, I did just some thing like that this past Friday.  I was thinking I'd just wait for a better price on the Braveheart BD -- or maybe pick it up from the nearby street vendor for $20 straight-up next week or so, but would forgo the $10 upgrade rebate, which I never end up doing because I hate cutting up the BD cover -- but ended up picking it up at J&R for a buck-fifty more than Amazon's current price.   *IF* I get around to sending in the rebate (and cutting up the cover for it), it'd be a nice price, but that's a big IF of course -- and I bet Paramount (and Disney) are banking on lots of folks like me who haven't been sending in the rebate form.

Well, I guess somebody has to help keep these local businesses afloat during this deep recession crunch, no?

Every little bit helps.

Just picked up Wolverine on BD at WalMart. I made 'em price match with Best Buy and saved a whole 97 cents.

Anyways, WM has the 3-disc "exclusive" with Blu-ray, a digital copy and a DVD version of the flick. Not sure when the DVD would come in handy, but hey, it was free (sort of).

I'd be all over that Hannibal Lecter collection if I had some more coin.

Last week (I think), I mentioned I'd wait until someone had Freddy vs. Jason for a decent price on BD.  BB has all the Warner BD's released last week for $12.99: Catwoman, Sphere, The Postman, FvJ, 2010 and a bunch of others.  The first X-Files movie for the same price, too.  Just FYI.
