I've owned an Denon HTIB system for about 5 years now and I'm looking to upgrade. My budget is around $1500. However, I would like to spend this over time and am looking to upgrade slowly throughout the year. The new system will be placed in my living room, which is large and has a vaulted ceiling that reaches 20 ft high (i.e., big space). I'm not too concerned about receiver suggestions because around the $500 to $600 there are a lot of good and comparable receivers for my needs (70% HDTV/DVD and 30% CD/MP3).
Questions:
1. What type of speakers should I get? Two towers plus center up front and bookshelves for surround?
2. In what order should I get my upgrades? The system I have in place is working, but feels underpowered.
3. Is there much difference in the power output of receivers around the same price?
