Can I switch from VGA to DVI in my office without re-wiring?

Thread Starter

I currently have a Gateway Desktop GT5644E connected to a Viewsonic 22" Monitor (VX2235WM) through VGA cable.

When the home was built about 2 years ago, I had an AV installer run the line under the floor in my office to extend the VGA port into the middle of the room so I can connect my monitor without wires running all over the floor.  There is a wall plate near my PC on one side of the room behind my cabinet and then a wallplate on the floor in the middle of my office both with VGA connections.  My desk sits right over this wallplate so you don't see any of the cables.

Now I would like go with DVI solution instead of VGA.  Any idea on my least expensive options to accomplish this?

Please let me know.  Thank you.

Obviously, electrically, they are NOT compatible wires.

How was the wiring run?  Is there any space in the channel/conduit that the existing wire is in?  If you can pull an HDMI connector through, you can adapt (at both ends) DVI<->HDMI; they're electrically identical on the video side.

Alternatively, you can find some DVI<-> Cat-6 or Fiber modems, but then you're starting to talk real money.  (Look under "cat-6 extenders" sort of thing.)
