Please help ASAP with my onkyo 805 and this dts bomb.

I have a question for all you smarter then me guys out there. I have a Onkyo Txsr-805. And I am getting a ps3 slim. I am planning on it bitsreaming to my a/v. But is this dts bomb somethig I should worry about? What can I do if this is a problem. If I should update my firmware how do I do that? And how do I tell what firmware I have now. Thanks

Unless it has changed with the new Slim, the PS3 will not bitstream DTS MA to the Onkyo.  It will decode it internally and pass it as Multi Channel PCM.  You should not have a problem.

Chris,

I just learned that the PS3 Slim WILL bitstream the HD formats.  So you may still have an issue.  The fix is not too difficult.  Call Onkyo support  and they can direct you to a download.  You burn this to a CD (its a music cd) and play it on a player connected to the Onkyo via Optical.  I used an old Sony DVD/VCR player to update my 705 last year.

Hi David,

I am new to this forum and pretty new to HT equipment as well.  I have an Onkyo 606 and just purchased a slim PS3.  I have not hooked it up yet, but planned to via HDMI.  How can I tell if my 606 has the update?  I have not taken it out of the box yet as the room is not completed yet.

This problem effected the x05 models.  The 606 was released a year after the firmware fix.  I doubt it has this problem (at least I haven't heard about it).
