Hi everyone,
my current setup is as such:
- Sony Bravia 40" hdtv, kdl-s5100
- Sony Home Theater System, davhdz273 (from target)
- cable output from the wall through coaxial (provided by housing complex, no digital converter or cable box)
I have the cable coax running into my tv, the tv is connected to the theater system through hdmi and optical toslink. The toslink is because I am hoping to hear the regular cable channels through the 5.1 surround.
However, I'm noticing a sizable audio delay on the output through the 5.1 surround when viewing cable channels. It is enough where if I turn on both the tv and theater volumes I can hear strong echo, and when viewing someone talking their voices do not match with their lips.
I did some searches and am thinking that perhaps my problem is because I do not have digital cable, thus the tv has to convert the analog coax audio signal into digital before passing it through toslink. I doubt the toslink is the problem. Am I correct on this diagnosis?
That being said, I need advice on the following options:
1) get HDTV (digital cable) and cable box from comcast, I'm guessing there is an optical audio output on the cable box that I can run directly to the home theatre system. Would this solve it?
2) would running component audio cables from the tv to the system actually be "faster" than the optical, and solve the lag problem?
3) Any way to have the tv "lag" the video for a bit to sync the audio and video?
Thanks very much!!
Richard
