Determined to elude the deadly virus, Danny (LOU TAYLOR PUCCI), his brother Brian (CHRIS PINE), his girlfriend Bobby (PIPER PERABO) and Dannys school friend Kate (EMILY VANCAMP) speed across the Southwestern U.S. to reach a place of possible safety.

I was so excited when I first heard about this movie (still am), but I am frustrated at finding out that it is only a limited release movie and not playing anywhere near me.

I was excited to see this one finally coming out. It's been on the shelf for a long time. Of course, as the release date approached and I'd still seen no previews, I expected a limited release. Unfortunate, but again, at least it's finally out there. My question is why did they cut it down to a PG-13 when they were just going to release it limited anyway?

So what exactly are the reasons for putting a movie out as a limited releases? This has happened to a few movies I have really wanted to see.

Having seen Carriers the weekend it opened, I have no idea why Paramount isn't putting it in more theaters.  It won't be for everyone, but it has a pretty high profile cast (Pine, Van Camp, Perabo, Meloni, Mark Moses from Desperate Housewives) and it's actually quite good.  Paramount Vantage put the movie together and they were absorbed back into Paramount proper, so maybe they simply had no idea how to market it and dumped the movie.  Sad, really, when you think about the wide release crapfest that was Halloween 2

^ Paramount is seriously testing my patience as of late. Aside from releasing this one limited, their treatment of Paranormal Activity, a film I've been waiting nearly two years to see, has left me quite soured. They've saddled it with the most bizarre release strategy I've seen, and it's becoming increasingly hard to keep my enthusiasm for the film going amidst my growing annoyance.

Paranormal Activity is being released to more theaters.  Granted, it's not a TON of theaters (20) but it's better than nothing...?
