sea of sand dvd

I am wondering why this classic isn't on dvd in region 1? The movie stars Richard Attenborough and takes place during WW II.

I've had this DVD for a few years, in fact I got a second one free with a newspaper about nine months ago (I've lots of great 50's war movies that came free with a newspaper!). It's not a good DVD, it's 1:85 letterbox for the titles & then zooms to 4x3. It really needs a good 1:66 anamorphic release. My favorite P.O.W movie is "Danger Within" ('59), also with Richard Attenborough, a great mass escape story, still waiting a DVD release.
