If your request is covered by one of the catagory enhancement threads please post it there instead of in this thread.

Make consistent the behavior of links in posts. Some open new tabs / windows. Others don't. Consistency is needed.

Dave-
The reason for that is because people creating the links have the option of specifying a target.  The default is to open in a new window.

Adam Thinking Out Loud:
In order to make it consistent we would have to take away the option for people to choose.  On the other hand what is the point of letting people specify how links that they post open?  I can't see a reason why that would really be important.  I'll send this up the flagpole to have a discussion on the pros and cons.

In my opinion, this is not a user decision, but a site ownership decision. This directly causes variable (uncertain) behavior in links: I never know if it will open in the same window / tab or will open in a new window / tab. This should simply be constant for all links: pick one and stick with it. (and philosophically, why should users dictate how other users will experience link behavior?)

If there is a choice: it should be a user preference: I could set my user preferences that says when I click a link it will open in a certain way for me. But my preferences should never be applied to other users, as this system does.

If you go the user preference route, I suggest having two options: one for intra-HTF links and one for outside links.

Honestly I can't see a reason for this to be user preference from the poster. It should simply be non-HTF links open in a new window and HTF links on the same page. Although I would prefer non-HTF links to be in a new "tab" rather than new window, but I know not every browser can support that. I can easily live with via new window, however.

Guys:

I agree. It should be consistent. And have local links remain local and non HTF links open in a new window is a great idea.

That would be nice: presently it's often the opposite. Most links to external sites open in the HTF window. And internal links from e.g. Review Thread to Discussion Thread open in new windows.

I like it!

Please  let links open to a new window or tab.

also email notices are difficult to read and are usually jumbled with weird letters, ampersands and other symbols.
Gmail

plus it is in a small yellow box that makes it even harder to read.
Also why does clicking the link in the email notice always take it back to the first post in the thread and not the first unread post or even the last post?

The RSS feed (aka "Live Feed") is too detailed to be useful - I doubt someone interested in subscribing to it wants to know about every  response and update to a thread. If the feed only included the new threads, that would be more usable. As it is the user is forced to sift through a lot of information to find out what is actually new.

I never understood RSS for a forum. But I'd be interested if a good use / solution was implemented for it. Updates on new threads is an interesting idea.
On the previous platform the RSS feed pushed new threads only, so it helped me see what was new at HTF while checking on my other news items in my feed reader.

It looks like wiki articles and threads can be reported to an admin for inappropriateness, but not gear reviews.

Case in point: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/products/dayton-dta-1-class-t-digital-amplifier-15-wpc/reviews#1070

Nice catch!

It's a long-term goal to have anti-spam scanning on every part of the forum, but unfortunately we're not there yet. Say bye-bye to that "member" and "review".

Did thread titles and Forum titles in the thread list areas and main forum area get a color change?

Seems to be much lighter then before or maybe I just noticed but titles are a light greenish color and for some reason to me seem much lighter the last few days or so.
tough to read at this color.

If it's been this way for awile I can't imagine why I just noticed it.

I do remember some talk of font color early in this new software enforcement but not recently.

None of the colors have changed on the site for several months.  Very curious that it's looking different to you.
