Hello,

As you can tell I'm new to the home theater. I just moved into a smaller apt due to a divorce, anyway i have a small budget of about 1500$. I'm starting from scratch i going to need speakers receivers. I have read most of the threads on this forum and i think i have a pretty good idea but i just wanted some input from the experts.

My son who is 18 years old wants to get in the field of installing home theater.I will help him as far as i can but i don't know any certifications that pertains to this industry besides cedia and thx i think. Can anyone tell me , if theres any educational facility where he can go in NY area? I saw some schools in california but i need both my arms lol.

   Thanks in advance

"installing home theater" covers a lot of ground - from your basic "plug stuff together" to construction of a dedicated room with proper acoustics and ultra-high-end gear -- maybe even a real film projector!

For the basic stuff, I'd suggest a part-time job with installers.  For school, a basic all-around education is essential.  Then your son can specialize in computers and electronics, physics for acoustics, construction trades, go after a business degree to run the shop, or interior design and architecture.   Home theater needs all these specialists, and a good generalist to make it all work together!

So, it all depends on what he likes, really.
