Digital Media Players - wireless + HD ?

Hello,

I am interested in purchasing a media box that allows me to do the following : play digital audio and video wirelessly over my home network, connect to my LCD tv (possibly wirelessly) or HDMi/composite, play media from USB, record HD tv shows from my digital HD box or through my Denon 2808 receiver.

I am trying to pick out a wireless HD media player that suits my needs. In my research I have found many manufacturers who each have their own varied versions. To name some : HDX, Dune, Mediagate, Mvix, Tvix, Popcorn Hour, D-Link, Sling, Squeezebox and more. I find it is so hard to make a choice because there is no single website that have a comparison tool to show the similarities or differences of one over the other media player. With so many different digital encoding formats for video and audio, its hard to see which one is better over the other. I find that one also have to consider storage options and other options such as wireless, usb, composite, HDMi, HD tuner, PVR availability for each device. Does anyone know of a website where I can compare the various brands and models easily rather than looking at the specs for each individual one ?

Alternatively, can some of you who own Dune, HDX, Mediagate, Mvix, Tvix Popcorn or D-Link please express your satisfaction or dissatisfactions with what you purchased.

Regards,
Richard

I've used all the media players you can ask for, from TviX, MviX, Popcorn, Mediagate, and Nixeus, one thing for me is Support and location of Support ~ since I am based in North America.

  • Tvix is awful and UK based
  • Mvix is awful as well, product is buggy
  • Popcorn a lot better but only issue is exchange policy is based from Asia, so you would have to send back and forth and transit time is a headache
  • Mediagate was considered one of the better ones but apparently company isn't around no longer.  Probaby because of economy.
  • Nixeus my latest purchased was able to pick it up at a special offer.  Vastly similar to Popcorn in functions and features.  But there warranty policy is better 2 Years and they are North America based company.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Junior
